There are two schools of thought on left turns. 1) Move into the intersection and wait. 2) Wait at the edge of the intersection and when the gap presents itself, drive forward to meet the gap and make your left turn. This is exactly how I do it. But my reason is because you never know when there’s an emergency and a police car, ambulance, or fire truck might need to go through the intersection. Also because there are people who don’t pay attention to the red light and can crash into you.

Honestly this channel is underrated. Never understood why people would just put themselves into the intersection than just inch over the white line, wheels straight, after the green light since that is insanely much safer than trusting other drivers’ ability to dodge you

In Germany everybody drives into the intersection because that’s how it’s taught in driving schools. If you don’t, people will think you are asleep at the wheel and honk at you.

Here in British Columbia you are required to enter the intersection so as to give the cars behind you the opportunity to turn also. It's in the Motor Vehicle Act.

Hmm, I actually do the opposite, and the reasoning is pretty simple. If you are already in the intersection and the light turns red, you are permitted to complete your left hand turn, whereas if you were behind the crosswalk you simply would have missed the light, or have entered the intersection illegally.

In heavy traffic you will never get a chance to turn if you stay at the "stop line".
If the lead cars move into the intersection, they are now on the intersecting street. When the light changes they actually have the "green". Depending on the size of the intersection at least 2 to maybe four cars will complete their left turns.
A better solution is to allow left turns only with a protected green arrow.

I fully agree with you. If you’re gonna stop in the intersection keep your tires pointing forward if you have them turned to make the turn and you’re stopped and somebody hits you in the rear you’re going to go right into the intersection and get hit again

I have seen too many collisions caused by people waiting in the intersection then panic as the light turns and just go while someone tries to get through on a yellow as the car in the intersection turns without yielding to oncoming traffic because they panic.

Also, it can cause issues if an emergency vehicle needs to get through and there is no room for them to get through because drivers are blocking the intersection.

Unless there is a green turn arrow, I wait behind the line before turning.

Is it illegal to pull into the intersection I’ve done this my whole driving life 25+ years and never was told otherwise. Yesterday I got pulled over for that. I was so enraged that some kid tried to exert authority over me whose been driving since before he was even a tickle in his papi’s sac. He didn’t write me a ticket or warning because I guess when he actually thought about it and stopped to observe an intersection and how litterally only one person did it the preferred way. In fact I thought waiting in the crosswalk is dangerous for pedestrians.

Absolutely disagree with the method provided. In large cities with a lot of traffic you'll never turn if you stop at the edge because simply there will be no gap. When you pull out onto the intersection like the one in the video, of course with the wheels positioned straight, you let another car to pull behind as well. And the moment the light turns red two cars will be able to turn left and if they're lucky to turn even before that more cars will turn with them. With the method explained if there's traffic the car at the edge will be the only one to turn because the rest will stop at a red light. Moreover the car at the edge might not even be able to move because if there's no gap the light will simply turn red before it crossed the stop line.
Summarizing all above when a car pulls onto this particular intersection this move adds 2 more cars to the total number of cars that can turn. In case of traffic it is crucial for traffic flow.

The rule is that one car is allowed to be hanging out into the intersection, so you can be in the Intersection as long as you are at a distance in which a car behind can't be in the intersection.

I agree with hanging back so you can start getting your speed when you see the opportunity coming but we all know that opportunity can disappear with one lane change or one four wheeler pulling out of a QT.

IMO, intersections are the one obstacle that you just have to adjust accordingly. There is no good rule.

For example, they can teach the whole "Stale green light" bs all they want. There's no good way to tell when a light is going to turn red unless you're familiar with the area. Especially now that most lights are triggered by an inductive loop. Schools would be better off teaching students that you might want to knock her down a bit if they see a vehicle pull up perpendicular to an intersection.
