Mr. John Tutorial : Left Turning a Semi (Center line lane to center line lane)

Показать описание
When making a left turn from the center line lane to the center line lane: 1) Drive straight out into the intersection until your head is at whatever divides the two ways of traffic -here it's a double yellow line- then 2) Steer your truck to the 2nd lane (curb lane on this road) until the tractor drive wheels are even with the stop line on the other side of the road (oncoming traffic side) then 3) Turn your tractor back to the left lane- finishing lane (closest to the centerline) while watching (tracking) your trailer so as not to drag it over the yellow lines or center curb then 4)When truck and trailer are straight in your lane the turn is complete- now signal and make your way to the curb lane one lane at a time when all clear. All 3 reference points for the left turn are on your left so you will always be able to monitor where your trailer is tracking. We as a truck drivers always travel in the far right lane (slow lane) so this is where we always finish up.

That's the best information I have heard since I been searching on YouTube and I'm in driving school, they couldn't break it down that easy, you have been very helpful and informative

Absolutely the correct way for a left turn. Oh, by the way, some states require the turn be made this way. GREAT job!

This less than 1 min video is more helpful than most of the driving schools out there

I am glad i found your channel ! After taking a break ( 12 years ) from trucking and just coming back to it this past week I found out just how rusty i am with my turns. Thank you very much for your time.

I honestly just learned and comprehended more from this less than a minute video, than my trainer has shown me in the last week of learning turns and off tracking. He never said use your driver door as a point of reference. Makes sense. Will try this week.

I had just started with the driving yesterday and my instructor was comfortable enough for me to start turning. even though I do not feel comfortable with it at all. the shifting and downshifting is easy.

I'm currently training for my cdl and my biggest concern was jumping the curb on the turns, I'm gonna give it a few tries with the methods I learned going through your videos and see if I learned quickly lol thanks for the videos man, very helpful

Thanks for the tip! Im eager to try it monday when i go driving at school. If im on my road test in ny and make this turn but cant get right back to the right lane im guessing id be impeding traffic and thus an auto fail? Thanks again.

I need help steering on the highway. Everyone always says the same thing "oh you'll be alright" or "it comes with time and experience" but I just don't think I'm ever going to get it. It frustrates me so much that it makes me want to quit driving and I LOVE driving. This is the only job I feel comfortable doing, I'm on my own, don't have to worry about or work with anyone. It's just a rewarding job all around. But I get frustrated not really knowing how to steer, keep the tractor and trailer centered on the highway, not knowing how to steer into or out of curves on the highway....just all around feel sloppy with civilians and other truckers wanting to stay clear of me 🤦‍♂️😩 I'm trying my hardest and have accomplished and overcome alot but still I hate looking like I can't drive

I did that on a road test at a company and the tester had issue with it. At the time I had had over 20 years of experience in 3 different countries trucking and the way he said I should have done I disagree with. If you know you need to be in that lane set yourself up to be in that lane NOT get in the right lane and then into the left when the left is already open.

Some jurisdictions do not allow trucks in the left lane. With that said, if you already have the right lane occupied, why give it up just to try another lane change?

Turns, backing up, angle parking, you name it I can do fairly easily but then get on the highway and look like a complete idiot 😩

In California they want us to end the left turn in the far right lane.. unless there are 3 lanes . But you ended in the left lane.? I am confused
