It's not about being black, it's about a perception of wealth. Wealth is respected everywhere in this world. The same deference is given to anybody perceived to have wealth, everywhere in this world by people who don't have the same kind of wealth.

Our ancestors suffering during chattel slavery was the offering that put us in a different economic position. I will not feel guilty.

It’s not just Ghana. It happens everywhere in this world. This is not a Ghana problem, it’s what humans do everywhere.

Been to Ghana many times stretching back to 1997. This brother is confused. First of all, let me say that my experiences in Ghana have been overwhelmingly positive. Nothing to do with "white privilege" because Ghanaians often think I'm Ghanaian. Second, it's not uncommon for African Americans to complain that white Americans are treated better in Ghana. Third, if you are moving around like a tourist then some Ghanaians might treat you differently. And even then Ghanaians don't typically treat white and black people the same. Forth, if you move about with Ghanaians and do what locals do--ride trotros, eat street food, etc. Then the expectations might be higher for you than whites. In other words, obruni gets more slack for being white. Thats the opposite of what he's describing as "white privilege." Fifth, a more basic problem is that people don't have a good understanding of what "white privilege" means. We lazily shout "white privilege" in ways that make no sense. Getting better treatment because someone wants something from you is manipulation not "white privilege." You should have said African Americans *sometimes* get better treatment in Ghana.

It’s not just black Americans. Anybody coming to Ghana with money and resources will be viewed in high esteem and well respected. I am a Ghanaian American and every time I come home I feel and get treated like a king. I know some white folks who get the same treatment in Ghana. Good topic but how you started was a bit condescending

Lets respect our Ghanian 🇬🇭 brothers and sisters when we get there!

Actually, it has more to do with the people of Ghana and how they are and treat others than anything else. It's not privilege, it's Ghana.

In Ghana we don't play white privilege but love respect, it no whiteness, strangers are treated well and even rich people in Ghana get more attention than ordinary people .

When I am in Ghana, I sometimes wonder if the so-called privilege I have is actually no privilege at all. If I complain about service or what have you, I might get a better response irrespective of outcome than a Ghanaian. But, in them knowing I am AA, I am charged (or an attempt is made) more for whatever product or service. What should be a privilege turns out to be a burden.

I’m sometimes treated this way in Nigeria also.

Saying that a BLACK person has white privilege w/ a straight face is insane to me. Black is not white regardless of where you are on the map. As a Black man you shouldn’t need a better understanding of this but proper wording & messaging to be able to articulate what you mean is necessary.

Naw, Black Americans have *Class* privilege in Ghana. The petit-Bourgeois (ie. small business owners & entrepreneurs) are self-selected expats in most cases; why would this be any different?

It’s the perception that you have money 💵, when they know you’re coming from the West, your not necessarily treated so much better, but they will sometimes better accommodate you accordingly and you will be asked for money here and there

Many Ghanaians are hospitable people to a fault sometimes, they tend to treat visitors better than their own. Is that "necessarily white" privilege?

Man your microphone sounds so clean for a lavalier. Do you mind making a video on the microphone you use?

That is what colonial mentality is all about bro. Many of us have a long way to go. It’s so bad to the extent, we downgrade ourselves and our own in favor of ‘foreign’ whatever, whom ever. Sad😢
