Master Plan: Modern family forever home

Показать описание
This L-shaped family home is designed around the family’s favourite areas — the pool and outdoor entertaining area.
The house was designed by mckimm, a Melbourne residential design practice, for the the firm’s founder Nick McKimm. In this video, Nick gives us a detailed tour of the stunning Brighton home, and explains some of its innovative design features.
He says that an important element of the design was featuring “introspective” architecture, creating their own views and zones.
Plus, Nick insists that ‘flow’ is vital to this house, “the aim was to create areas that were well-zoned and enhance the connection between internal and external spaces.” To do this, every room has a view out onto the pool so that there’s a sense of connectivity between rooms.
This connectivity was another integral part of the design — making choices such as having the barbecue in a central spot in the outdoor entertaining area, rather than in the corner.
And as for materials, Nick says they used “honest” materials, including lots of concrete, timber and steel. These are durable materials that will withstand the test of time, and that require minimal up-keep. Plus, the concrete is textured and patterned in different areas of the house, to create variety and visual interest.
This home is featured as part of our series, Master Plan. If you like architecture, modern house designs, or want design inspiration of your own home, then Master Plan is the series for you.
