Seeing brad Pitt hear everything he feared coming from his father about him not caring about him and then him reply “I know dad” completely broke me.

this scene feels surreal, like neither of them are sure if they are hallucinating

“I still love you dad.” What a scene. What a triumph.

That tear man. Amazing performance. Brad Pitt realised later that because he's in space, the tear is defying physics by going down his cheek, which would require gravity, so he suggested they animate it floating away from his eye instead. The director couldn't bring himself to do it, as he loved the performance so much and felt making the tear float away would sour the scene.

The catharsis and horror when Tommy Lee Jones readily admits that he abandoned his son and his family....

My dad is similar to Tommy Lee’s character and has said very similar things. The tone of voice in his delivery is so familiar it was uncomfortable to watch but it also gave me some insight into why he is the way he is. I loved this movie.

My wife and I were the only ones in our theater when this film came out. I was shocked as it quickly became one of our favorite space films. Such an underrated Brad Pitt performance.

We see very clearly that loneliness has deeply effected both of them.

"I know, dad." Jesus, fuck! This scene STILL destroys me. Brad has never put out a performance this immaculate.

3:42 I LOVE Tommy Lee Jones' acting in reaction to "I still love you, dad." He looks like someone who tried to hurt his son to push him away, to get away, expecting to be hurt back, but the unconditional loving-kindness Pitt's character shows throws him off. He doesn't know where to look, or how to respond to someone who hasn't given up on them. It's so visceral and human.

Sad. I remember going to visit my grandfather the day i graduated from highschool. Couldnt wait to tell him. He didnt even know who i was. A few months later he was gone. He gave up after my grandmother had died a couple years prior. .

this scene is solid!
2:23 "Home?"
"Yup."
The complete bleakness in Roy's voice there "Yup" is super deep. You can tell he knows it's probably not gonna happen, and he's just sort of saying he's "gonna take him home" as a formality.

This scene is powerful, makes me relate to my relationship with my father. He pretty much abandoned us almost 20 years ago, but he is still my father

An incredibly under appreciated film. Deeply moving. Incredible performances.

I wish that I could just go and find my dad in deep space. Just to see him again, ask him if he's okay.. This scene is powerful, with such strong emotions.

“Home…This is home, this is a one-way voyage my son.”
That part hits hard.

Brad knows and sees his father from the sky perspective and loves him unconditionally.

While shooting the climactic scene, Brad Pitt ended up crying unprompted in character. But as the scene takes place in zero-g, Pitt told director James Gray that the tear should be edited in post to float like a bubble off his face, rather than run down his cheek. "You gotta replace my tear, that's not how it works in zero-gravity, " Pitt reportedly said, to which Gray responded, "I'm sorry, I'm keeping it. The acting's too good, buddy."

Pitt's acting here is honestly dam good here with minimal dialogue...the single tear and the delivery of "I know dad.." hit me hard ..
