Sometimes I come back to this video just to read the comments and remind myself that there are other people out there who love the same things that I do. That's part of the power this film (and this scene) has :)

So many people today looking for something that isn’t there…convinced they will find it…but then ignore what’s right in front of them.

“He could only see what was not there, and missed what was right in front of him” 😢. Thank you for posting my favorite scene from the film.

A hugely underrated movie…the idea of using the search in the vastness of space, something so distant so unattainable to remind us human beings of what we have within our grasp is just genius movie making….and Max Richter’s musical score for this movie is so intoxicating, moving and soulful….absolute bliss

He captured strange and distant worlds in greater detail then ever before they were beautiful magnificent full of awe and wonder but beneath there sublime surfaces there was nothing no love no hate no light no dark he could only see what was not there and missed what was right in front of him

Notice how dimly he is lit by sunlight. Neptune is so far away from the sun, that sunlight is 900 times dimmer

This movie reminds me of my relationship with my old man. He lives in a different world and didn't want to acknowledge the one he was in. He saw what was not there and missed what was right in front of him. Drug addiction is bad for the one enduring it, but sometimes it's even worse for those who have to watch it happen to someone they loved.

i really liked the way this movie went with the idea of whats out there, i know there was no way they could have searched every planet in every solar system but they went with the "we are alone" option and it really did a good job of terrifying me

This movie is termed boring today, but will be a classic philosophical gem tomorrow 💯

The data retrieval scene at 0:50 seems like a parallel to 2001: A Space Odyssey when Hal is getting deactivated.

An absolutely beautiful movie that actually helped me come to terms with some anxieties I had and helped bring me back down to earth

It’s very symbolic to how loneliness has effected both Roy and Clifford. Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones have amazing chemistry in this movie!

This movie was about dealing with your karmic backlogs so that you are ready to go forth with your current one. The longer you put it off the harder it becomes.

Fun fact: the draft script shows a quite different last act with McBride’s father being much more megalomaniac. Having come to terms with the fact that « there was nothing », he wanted to use the energy of the Surge to create a new system.

This is easily one of the best films this century. It didn't do well at theatres, but it's definitely a case of unappreciated movies when it came out but praised the longer time goes. I was glad I saw this on release. Art pieces like this are rarely made.

What’s crazy starting at 1:33 is that all of these photos of “what he captured” are REAL photos of other alien bodies...beautiful
