Maria Panagopoulou, PhD, Democritus University of Thrace, Alexandroupolis, Greece, discusses the diagnostic value of methylation signatures in patients with breast cancer that can be identified via automated machine learning. In this study, publically available high-throughput methylation raw data were analyzed and used to produce a five-gene signature that was able to discriminate primary breast cancer, metastatic breast cancer, and healthy breast tissue, highlighting the significance of methylation profiling which in the future could be used for diagnostic purposes. This interview took place during the 17th St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference.
