Arguably the most iconic, well known, and globally recognized franchise of all time, Star Wars has seen 12 theatrically released movies over the span of nearly 50 years. Despite the franchises immense popularity across every medium it is present in, it's big budget movies have seen some surprisingly mixed reactions. So, join me in this video as we rank all 12 of them from Worst to Best!

1. Empire Strikes Back: What can I say that hasn't been said already? This film is almost flawless. The performances, story, sets, effects, action, music, cinematography, pacing and depth this film has is perfect. My favourite scenes are with Yoda teaching Luke about the force and I always get chills every time he lifts the X-Wing out of the water.

2. A New Hope: A classic for a reason. I love the characters, the story and the mythology it introduced us to. It's beautiful in its simplicity. The effects look superb even today and it has arguably the greatest musical score of any film in history. You can tell it had a rough production as some of the acting was a bit ropy at times and the camerawork isn't anything special but in a way they add to the charm of the film. This film was my childhood!

3. Return of the Jedi: Objectively not a good film but the final act is so good that I don't care. And because the first two did such a great job in setting up the finale, this film still has me invested from start to finish, even during the most goofy parts with the ewoks. If I saw this film now as an adult I would have it allot lower, but I didn't. I have nothing but fond memories of this film and as I said, the final act alone is worth the price of admission.

4. Solo: A really fun film. Nothing amazing but a great ride and Alden Ehrenreich did a great job as did the rest of the cast. This is one of those films that I can watch at any time and have a great time.

5. Rogue One: Just like Solo this is a film I can watch at any time and enjoy. The characters should've been developed more but I liked them enough to get sad when they died. And the entire third act is incredible!

6. The Last Jedi: This is a GREAT film, so why is it here? Because it doesn't work in the context of a trilogy. That's not even Rian Johnson's fault. JJ Abrams decided to either ignore or retcon most things in it which rendered it pointless. The performances are fantastic (especially Mark Hamill and Adam Driver), it felt unpredictable, had a great message about learning though failure, the score, cinematography and overall filmmaking was the best in the entire trilogy. However due to the two films it sits in-between I have little desire to watch it again because I already know how it ends. Also Canto Bite was completely pointless because it meant nothing. I would forgive it if it was at least entertaining, but it wasn't. And the marvel humour was not wanted.

7. The Force Awakens: I loved this film when it first came out! But over time the love slowly died to a point where I have no interest in seeing it again. The familiarities to ANH became more apparent after every watch as did the obvious attempts to appease fans. My reaction after watching it again after all the hype died down was just... meh! The new characters are cool. I liked Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren but do I care for them as much as the original characters? Nah. I liked the mandalorian as a character more and we bearly see his face. And they completed Finn's character arc in this film which meant he did nothing in the next two.

8. The Rise of Skywalker: The film that rendered the entire sequel trilogy pointless. Instead of taking the interesting concepts set up in TLJ, Jar Jar Abrams just retcond it all and tried to make a film that would "heal the divide" so to speak. He instead made a bloated mess full of cringe-worthy fan service and proved once and for all that Disney had no idea what they were doing with the sequel trilogy. Great shame. Bringing back the emperor without any explanation? Making Rey his granddaughter? Making unsubtle jabs at the previous film? Really??? There were also too many characters which made this attempt of a story even more bloated. This was just a hollow attempt at trying to remake the OT and it falls flat on it's face and deservedly so. Iv defended the newer movies for ages now but looking back and thinking about them in context with the OT and the Disney+ shows in future I cant help but think... What's the point of that trilogy?

9. Phantom Menace: The best of the prequels but I know that isn't saying much. However unlike the other two prequel films I get the sense that they at least tried and unfortunately it fell completely flat. The story is a mess, more plot holes that swiss cheese, the acting is wooden, I don't want to see Anakin as a kid, the dialogue is awful, the action (bar the lightsaber fight) is boring, the villain doesn't say do do anything and midichlorians! Why? And I hate Gungans more than minions and that's saying allot.

10. Attack Of The Clones: Even worse than PM. While PM at least tried, this didn't even bother. The character of Anakin is horrible. Instead of seeing Obi-Wans noble jedi student we got a whiny, arrogant, obnoxious, selfish, asshole horny teenager. The CGI looks terrible. In context this film came out the same year as LOTR Two Towers and while that film looks fantastic even today, AOTC looks like one giant cartoon. The acting is again wooden, the whole film looks like a cartoon, the worst love story iv ever seen on screen, the Jedi being idiots, Yoda waving a lightsaber, doing backflips and plot hole galore. Fuck this movie!

11. Revenge of the Sith: I know some of you are shocked as this is now a fan favourite and it's not as bad as AOTC but the reason why this is at the bottom is because I hate this one the most because people are blind to how terrible it is. And yes, this is a terrible movie. It's an empty meaningless spectacle with wooden acting and bad writing. While the writing in the prequels has always been bad it's especially notable here. Anakin believes every obvious lie Palpatine tells him then turns to the dark side because he had ONE bad dream. He goes from saying "that's not the Jedi way" to murdering children five minuets later. The dialogue is again awful "only because im so in love" and lets not forget "It's over Anakin I have the high ground." Like AOTC the whole thing looks like a giant cartoon and the humour was even more annoying than the sequel trilogy. I could go on for ages as to why I hate this film but i'll end my rant here.

Star Wars is special to me. While these movies have their highs and lows, most of these movies have something of worth. I would say Star Wars was my favorite franchise for the longest time until the MCU dethroned it.

1. Revenge of the Sith (While Empire is a better made movie, I still adore this movie. It is a top 5 favorite movie for me. The story is magnificent, the pacing is excellent, the action and tension are my favorite in the series, Palpatine is one of the best villains ever created, and the climax is my personal favorite of the franchise. While this movie has problems, I don’t care about any of them because the highs far outweigh the lows. Obi-Wan and Yoda are also awesome in this movie!)

5. Return of the Jedi
6. The Last Jedi (80% of the movie is fantastic and top tier Star Wars, the other 20% is some of the worst stuff in Star Wars)
