John Vernon owns this scene. What a great movie this is.

Man, I love John Vernon, brought such gravitas and stoicism to any role he played.

Possibly one of the best ending dialogues in a western. Ever.

"I guess we all died a little in that damn war": the best epitaph for all soldiers, whether they died in war or survived it.

When Clint departs this world, this is the scene I will come back to

One of the best endings to any movie, ever...the closure between Josey and Fletcher, with the beautifully orchestrated and hauntingly appropriate "Rose of Alabama" song playing in the background...simply love it!

What a great movie. The voice of John Vernon was special. Heck, the whole cast was special!

The others smile, but Fletcher does not. He's carrying a lot of baggage in that last breath. Vernon plays it brilliantly.

I wish this scene was 20 minutes long. It's so true that sometimes we men communicate like this. Few words meaning volumes. An understanding that goes beyond words. Beautiful scene

The symbolism of the blood on the boot is perhaps the most powerful part of this scene. Fletcher sees that blood, knows that Wales is still wounded, still bleeding....still hurting. The audience sees it too. Fletcher can't take that wound away, can't take Wales' pain away. He can only stand there and let Wales choose what to do. And Wales rides off. Still bleeding. Still hurting. But no longer fighting. The war is, in that moment, finally over.

This scene literally gives me the chills. Eastwood’s line at the end was satisfyingly perfect. Forgiveness granted through a shared knowledge of intense pain and sadness, and the score magnified these feelings. Reminiscent of the score in the scene of Good, Bad and Ugly when they blew the bridge to appreciation of the dying captain.

Vernon’s look said it all. I understood that breath he took at the end. It was as if an intense burden was lifted and all was forgiven. Only Wales could offer that relief to Fletcher, and it was not expected.

I’ve seen hundreds of movies and films of all kinds, and this one ranks near the top for best endings. Thank you for the upload.

There’s an old saying Fletcher to the victory belongs the spoils.
There’s another old saying Senator. Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining.

Fletcher had a velvet voice and was a good guy in the end, great ending to my favourite Western.

You had to feel sorry for Fletcher. The man was labeled as Benedict Arnold and he wasn't. He was betrayed just like Josey Wales.
