How to Organize Files in Office/Home (Part 2 of 9 Paper Clutter Series)

The first way to file your papers is with hanging file folders in a traditional filing cabinet. In this video, I'll show you the color-coded filing system I've used for years and highly recommend!

The second way to organize and file paperwork is with binders! In this video, I'll show you how I organize all of my binders inside and out so things are easy to find and clutter-free!

Love seeing someone else do what I have done for years. When I was teaching, all of my school files were in binders and it made such a difference! People would ask me "can I borrow such and so paper?" and I handed it to them in about ten seconds flat or less.

I have gone almost completely digital with our paperwork. I keep our passports, birth certificates and wedding certificate in a fireproof safe.
Our sentimental documents go in a folder and we have one folder each.
All other documents I scan through an app on my phone and upload to google drive. This way there are easily accessible and safe from damage. These are documents like receipts, medical records, bills, banking records, insurance details. The amount of paperwork you actually NEED to keep a hard copy of is actually very small

I do have a filing cabinet but as often as I can, I go paperless and have a PDF file of my bill (or whatever). I categorize them by year and Payee and save them to my competed and also a flash drive. I’ve been thinking about what I would do if my house burned down. Perhaps storing in a “cloud” somewhere as well... just a thought for those who want to save paper 😊
