1982-2004 Chevrolet S10 Pickup Rear Shock Replacement

Hello. Today I am working on a 2001 Chevy S-10 pick up. I will be replacing the rear shocks with some nice aftermarket coil overs that I purchased on Amazon. My old ones were shot and did nothing to dampen the ride and did not allow me to load the back without bottoming out.

I just replaced the rear shocks on my 96 S10 2WD and found an easier way: If you remove the spare tire, there's no need to jack up the vehicle. You will fit underneath. As I recall the bolts and nuts are 21mm tightened to 62 foot pounds and 13mm @ 22 foot pounds, as per the service manual. This was an easy job. I used Monroe OE Spectrum shocks, and surprisingly Home Depot had the lowest price.

Bought the same shocks and put them on my 1993 Chevy S10. MAN!! They worked great, Well worth the $89 I spent for them on Rock Auto.

How come your vehicle doesn’t have a rear sway bar ? Is it a good thing to have it or not? the reason I ask cuz I bought the exact same shocks n on mine it has the sway bar n its interrupting the shocks to be put in. 🤷🏽

I just picked up a 96 s10 extended cab with 82k original miles and one owner. Getting a ladder rack built for it and wondering if replacing the rear shocks with some like these would help the payload some??
