Another good video. I'm currently new to the field as a staff adjuster at my carrier. Trying to get experience under my belt before becoming an IA. Definitely helped with learning policy and getting a good feel for a bunch of different types of claims. One of the best adjusters I know wont become an IA to potentially make more for the stability reason you give. He has a family so he doesnt think its worth the risk. I'm still on the fence but being new, I'm comfortable not getting overwhelmed with the volume some IA's take on.

Good stuff, thanks for the wisdom!

Thank you for confirming what I already suspected, that staff adjusters are not paid less than independents, just paid differently. Need some help, Matt ! I just got off the phone with Eberls and they told me as a new adjuster most companies will only hire me on CAT before daily because they prefer seasoned adjusters first for Daily work. I also learned that all the training the IA firms offer is out of pocket expense. The background checks required by the IA firm has to be paid by an adjuster. I understand they want to make sure they have dedicated adjusters, but my goal is to be a successful and knowledgeable adjuster. I do not want to spend a lot of money in a short period of time trying to accumulate licenses and certifications without any hands on experience so I can hurry up amd wait for the next catasrophe. All of these are reasons I am leaning towards being a staff adjuster. I ultimately would like to become an independent adjuster. Am I missing anything in my reasoning? Thank you, again.

few questions since im new to this topic. 1) What is the name of the license for staff and for IA license? is it the 6-20 license? 2) for IA, do you need to have you own company say physical location and business name etc. 3) do i need to be a staff before i can be an IA adjuster? Thanks

I’m 18 years old, will firms look at me differently because of my age ?

I do have previous in construction.. my dad is a roofer and contractor, I’ve been in construction pretty much my whole life

But the average age of an IA is 40+, am I at a disadvantage?
