When the current generation RAV4 Hybrid was launched in early 2019, Toyota set out to shatter the perceptions of what a hybrid vehicle is – and now we’re doing it again. Simply put, the first-ever 2021 RAV4 Prime will break ground as the most powerful RAV4 ever. This new premium, fun-to-drive RAV4 performance model with 302-combined net horsepower, advanced all-wheel drive and exclusive design features make it a cut above the rest. With an ability to do 0-60 mph in a projected 5.7 seconds, the RAV4 Prime is the quickest four-door model in the Toyota lineup. But, it doesn’t end there.

The RAV4 Prime also has up to an EPA-estimated 42 miles on battery alone on a single charge, making it the highest EV range of any PHEV SUV on the market. Not to mention, the RAV4 Prime has up to an EPA-estimated 94 combined MPGe. Even more, what sets RAV4 Prime apart from the others is the standard Electronic On-Demand AWD – a versatile vehicle suited for wherever life takes you. With the help of a separate electric motor that powers the rear wheels when needed, the AWD system proactively powers on acceleration startup and also in reduced-traction conditions. And off-pavement, AWD enhances hill-climbing performance. Available in SE and XSE trims, the RAV4 Prime leads the pack with the latest tech and safety features like standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa compatibility, available 9″ multimedia touchscreen, available Head-Up Display and so much more.

Congratulations Mike on finding the only RAV4 Prime at Sparks Toyota long enough to do a review video. In the Seattle area RAV4's are "Sold" as soon as the tires touch the lot! Many thanks to you and Michael Holmes for exploring the drive mode differences. Really cool to see a dealership with inventory too! 👍

Careful on your details. The 120 volt charger is NOT the 3.3KW charger. The 3.3KW charger is the lower of two 240 volt chargers the other being the 6.6KW charger. The 3.3KW charger runs at about 16 amps (240 volts X 16 amps = 3840 watts with some resistance it charges at about 3.3KW to the battery in about 4.5 hours). The 6.6KW charger runs at about 32 amps (240 volts X 32 amps = 7680 watts with resistance about 6.6KW charging to the battery in about 2.5 hours). If the 120 volt was charging at 3.3KW it would be pulling about 30 amps which is about double what a standard 120 volt wall outlet puts out. Also the beefier springs are mostly for the extra weight of the large battery (which is why the Prime rides so nice) not so much the extra horsepower although it does help some in that area.

Music is great, very 80's vibe !! Thank for the video on the RAV 4 Prime, especially thanks for all the details that most miss, like rear plug, and towing capacity. 1500W plug ?! Wow

12 hours of battery charging to drive just 40 miles sound like a lot? Great overview btw!

One question, when it switches to gas from EV, that is a cold engine. How does Toyota mitigate a dry engine? As in oil flow and warm up. TIA

Now that the Fed tax credit is no longer available for RAV4 prime, are they any easier to come by?

Couldn’t pay me to have a rav 4. Rode in one a week as a front seat passenger mostly. Hit my head each time getting in and out of the vehicle. Drove it a few times and couldn’t ever adjust the steering wheel properly where I didn’t have have to either duck my head or bend down to see how fast I was going. I’m just under 6 ft. The dealer told me it takes getting used to having to tilt my head getting in and out, no thanks. Plenty of other vehicles of similar size that don’t have this issue.
