One of the consistently weirdest things about ONI is that buildings don't conduct heat to the floors they are sitting on.
But one little conduction panel behind the building, and suddenly that heat just comes gushing out all over the floor.

Just want to bring up that the conduction panel touching a building and tile has always been a viable cooling method. The conduction panel was terrible in previous versions at transferring the heat to the piped liquid passing by. I've done tests on both the previous version and current version of the game, and conduction panels from both versions equalize temp with hot buildings very quickly. However when having liquid pipes pass the panel, the -35c super coolant raised only to -25c on previous version, and on the current version it raised to 60c. (Building temp is 800c).

Issue was that previous the liquid "inside" the panel would only sit for a split second, not a whole second like it does on radiant pipes, which severly limited heat transfer. It would only work by adding a valve or shutoff after the conduction panel to force liquids to sit inside.
Now piping liquid works without any hassles.
Conduction panel to tile method has been working wonders ever since it was first introduced.

I would have liked to see the conductivity of the panel to the pipes liquid. Without bleeding the heat into a tile (floating building, or on mesh tile), but instead just pulling heat from an isolated hot building, how much heat can the 10kg/s of the pipe pull away? Different liquids vs different panel materials would be interesting too.

This game so so addicting its insane. I love our Dupes. This guys voice doesn't annoy me, subbed.

would been interesting to see if a conduction panel made out of a material can transfer heat faster then a tile made out of the same material.

Great work as always, @Echo 😁😘

So basically, conduction panels still work the same way as when it was introduced to the game, it's just been improved by increasing how much thermal conductivity affects the average thermal transfer. Even the tooltip says "without any liquids running through", which a "few" previous comments confused me: no patch notes stating it was changed to requiring liquids, and tooltip still stating the same.

When it was introduced, someone (can't remember who it was) built a petrolium boiler using a conduction panel in a vacuum, and it was just as effective as one powered by magma, just a much smaller footprint in terms of size.

Thank you! I've felt so gaslighted by everyone poo pooing conduction panels when -- at least lately --- I've had pretty good results in various applications. Now that makes sense.

Now do shine bugs vs germs. Seriously.

Everyone hates th' bugs, but they're such great free slimelung and food poisoning control (zombie spores even), because they almost always can be encouraged to go where you need them with very little effort. I wouldn't spend a lot of resources ranching or relocating shine bugs, but most of the time it's only a matter of leaving certain doors open for them to wander through, or at most, picking up and moving an egg to a prime location so they'll disinfect it for you later. Often a zone filled with slimelung can be left to the shinebugs to deal with while I turn my attention somewhere else for a while.

If you have a nyctophobic dupe (for whatever reason) it's sometimes easy to shoo a bug to where their cot is, or leave an egg there. Why not?

I still kill them if they're confined near the main barracks, if I can't get them to wander out in a cycle or two.

This looks like a great tool to help remove heat from areas you don't want it. Like main colony, into space or into an ice biome without having to worry about pipes freezing.

You could definitely use this for some weird thermal transfer stuff that would be super interesting to do remote heat management on aqua tuners

I feel like this building finally has a use.

And now I need to go through my base to make sure I'm using them right...
Good video!

I belive difference is that MOST materials including radiant pipes take MINIMUM transfer speed from the equation, while that new element takes whatever it has, ignoring other 2.
its super good at melting ice or spreading a lot of heat from pipes to other things. I did not know it works in vaccum as well, that helps a lot.

Awesome video. I never would have thought to use them like that. Good job

Wonder if you could use this to build smaller thermal spikes for something like a petroleum boiler.

This could make for some simplified designs for steam production. Like when a player first builds their rockets and want to try and use the steam engine. Common problem I have is the lack of early steel, due to lack of lime.

Conduction panels are now utterly super powered. They're insanely efficient at cooling because the heat will only go to the building in a vacuum. I have like 12 industrial buildings cooled on a part time aquatuner. including 6 plastic presses. Before people did steam hot industrial bricks, but now we have a cleaner option: the vacuum industrial brick.

Good morning Echo! Thanks for dropping some knowledge about the conduction panel update. I'll always watch your tutorials/info videos. Keep up the great work, and thank you!

I was wondering how much it was improved. This will make it more useful

It's a reasonable replacement for radiant pipes in general. Any place you want to run multiple radiant pipe sections to cool a machine you should probably just use one of these. Two reasons: it's 3 segments long, and only 100 metal (vs 1 for 50). I might have to do some experimenting to see if they arrive early enough to use before I just want to build an enclosed brick
