I served in the United States Marine Corps as an Artillery Cannoneer from 1986 to 1990. Towards the last year of my contract we got a First Sergeant who was an honorable and decorated Vietnam veteran. Long story short he did something that was out of his character and got into some trouble. He was NJP’d and reduced from an E-8 down to an E-6. He was transferred out from my unit to another. I bumped into him a few weeks before I separated from service. He gave me some words of wisdom that have stuck with me all these years. He said that you can have a lifetime of glory, decorations and honor and all it takes is one “Aww Shite” moment and flush it all down the crapper. You won’t be remembered by all the good things you’ve done but you would be remembered by your screw up.

That is the case of Tim Walz. He could be remembered for his years of honorable service but instead he will go down in history as a liar and stolen valor because he choose to embellish his military service with things that were absolutely untrue. He retired as a Master Sergeant, E-8 which is an achievement well deserved of praise but he instead said he retired as a Command Sergeant Major and said he served in a combat zone when he didn’t. Shame on him!
