I picked up my Ioniq 5 ( premium wad vision pack) this Monday and drove it 1100 km in lovely Norwegian winter weather 😅 I’m 194cm and about 90 kg, and this is the first car I’ve ever felt like “wow, this was made for tall people”. And it’s spacious inside.

I've had a 2WD Ioniq 5 since March 2022 and done 8500 miles over which the car tells me it has averaged exactly 4.0 miles per kwh. I dont do many motorway journeys but even when I do I am amazed at how efficient the car is. Normally I get a little over 300 miles from a full charge in summer and about 250 in winter and I don't even have the eco pack! Loving it!

A bit off topic, but you cannot pick wrong when you choose the Ioniq5. I've had the privilege of "owning" the ioniq5 AWD for three months now and it's truly awesome in almost all aspects. Range on the highway is not exceptional, though, even at 115 kmh and in eco mode. But it charges so incredibly fast that it's not a big deal. The other minor issue I have is the intrusive "feedback" when you change lanes or go through a corner. Otherwise, I have never enjoyed an automobile as much as this one.

Great that you included the charging test!!

Great comparison. I ordered the Ioniq 5 a few weeks ago. Mostly because exterior design. But Nissan's(in my case Infiniti's) bad history with software updates etc. had also a big impact on the decision.

Clear Win for Ioniq 5: better space, better charging and recuperation, better price, better exterior design

I average 17.1 kWh/100km with 70% motorway driving and 30% city driving in a RWD Ioniq 5 after 3000km. Efficiency wise it's fantastic. Plus, it drives exceptionally well and you can easily 'play' with the tail when ascending a mountain :) ....and it looks stunning. Ioniq 5 all the way....

Both are good cars, but the Ioniq 5 win easily. The Ariya is even more expensive than a Model Y in AWD which is very surprising.

I’ve owned an Ioniq 5 for 2.5 years now and IT IS PHENOMENAL!!! But… Boot shape is a massive flaw for me as is the driving position. I always seem to have a lump in my back even with the lumbar support recessed fully. Add to that the fact that the armrest in the door is at a completely different height to the central armrest and driving can be strained long distance. But… these are minor flaws for an otherwise sensational family car!!! Ps the load cover can slide behind the back seats.

Just letting you know based on my experience with the ioniq 6, you dont need to heat up the battery for fast charging unless its really cold. i've been getting 10-80% in 18-19 mins without any preconditioning at temps above 60F (15C)

Great comparison test again Thomas. Spot on with your thoughts on pros and cons of the HI5, reflects my ownership over 18 months. I have put a deposit on the Fisker Ocean One and hope to see your review soon as production has just started in Graz. A big step up in sustainability and the WLTP range of over 700km is extraordinary for the price point.

Im 20k mile in with the Ariya its a nice car apart from ride quality is harsh and wheelspin when its cold and or wet due to FWD. I think both look great.

One thing most people seem to forget about when choosing is the brands customer service, as a lot of EV's seem to have a lot of teething problems.

you should test the efficiency on city driving where most ev shine over ICE. In my Ioniq5 RWD, I constantly get around mid 13kw/100km, 50/50 city/highway up to 80kmh, key is the regen and using eco mode.

Danke, Thomas!

Ioniq 5 would be my choice.
V2L? Big screen smart TV to watch Autogefühl in full screen, of course! 👍🏼

My wife’s cousin purchased the Ariya (Canada) - not sure if she’s taken delivery. AWD version I believe.

The more I learn about the different EVs on the market, the more confused I get. It seems like there isn’t anything that properly stands out, they all have their good and bad and I don’t seem to be able to find the one that suits me without too many compromises. That said, I’ve had my eye on the Ioniq 5 for a while and it appears to be the closest to what I want, but I don’t know… it’s a thorny problem for sure
