I’ve got a few of those books, and your assume not of them is spot on. A man could learn a lot from them. That said, I feel like you are selling the idea of being well dress as only a tool to project power. It is so much more than that; it is respect, understanding the sense of occasion, esteem, and so much more. I won’t lie, however, and admit that I like the way dressing well has become a bit counter-culture, and make some recoil at the sight of a well dressed man.

I was at CES 2023 and was meeting with some people, they were international visitors and dressed casual but so CLASSY that it made me feel under dressed in my sneaker, jeans and business t-shirt. They treated me excellent but that was what opened my eyes to this all. This years CES I had a nice watch, new jeans but with boots this time. On the main hall days I still kept my company shirt on but suite meeting days I wore flannel and button down shirts. Baby steps I suppose but made me feel good.

I bought both of Alan's books back in the 1980s, they are still in my bookcase along with several books on western boots and military flight jackets.

The background music and the in-depth take on the topic makes this video definitely a 10/10.

Great video! I have several of these in my own library, and as a former Styleforum regular, it's nice to see Manton's The Suit get a shout-out 😀

Yes, I enjoyed the video on books. I've written down some names and I will head to Amazon to see if they have them.

Inball seriousness, I'd like to know what the other 31 books are

Funny how many of the books you have on the table are also in my library. Makes sense since we have a similar style DNA and background!

Hi sir. Hope you’re well.
Updated clothes/watch/fragrance collection? Will you ever declutter/downsize your collection? Thanks 🙏🏽

Thank you for this video Antonio! Very happy to find new books to get into!

To add my 2 cents of the 2 most popular books - 'Dressing the man' and 'Gentleman' - I will say I am a much bigger fan of the latter. I've read both and I think Bernhard Roetzel does a better job of capturing everything about a man's style (including grooming) than Alan Flusser. Flusser's book is very much about fit, fabric and clothing details, and it is also, I feel, a bit more dated in its advice on patterns and combinations of garments. 'Gentleman' however, feels classic but up to date, and provides much better information on casual style than 'Dressing the man'. Both great books, but I would advise anyone to start with Bernhard Roetzel's.

I think I have that same turtleneck as Antonio is wearing. Is it by John Henric?

is there a documentary / tv show / course on style? one that goes through all the things these books talk about, proportion, colors, shirts, etc, with photos and videos?

Thanks so much, Antonio, for this excellent review of some of the best books out there that chronicle the history and the details of men's style.

I rarely leave the house, even to run errands, without a suit and tie, or at least a sport coat or blazer and tie, but I have to tell you that in my small town, all these elements of sartorial splendor are more or less dead.

I almost never see a grown man wearing even a sport coat, much less a suit and tie, and the majority default to a uniform of sneakers, jeans, t-shirts, cargo shorts, completely non-descript jackets, and baseball caps.

If I'm wearing long pants and a shirt with a collar, I might as well be Fred Astaire dressed in top hat, white tie, and tails, by way of comparison.

I do get a lot of compliments on the way I dress, especially from women. Otherwise, the general situation is truly depressing.
