Ideally, you want one of each working collaboratively with you and your general practitioner, but its so prohibitively expensive to acquire a Psychologist that most people are blocked from access.

Most problems in life won't be solved with just one tool or resource. :)

Another distinction is this:
Psychiatrist is a Greek work meaning “psyche” (soul) and “iatros” (doctor) where the doctor can prescribe medication,
while psychology is again “psyche” (soul) and logos (speach) where you talk about your soul. ☺️

Clinical psychologists are able to prescribe psychotropic medications in 7 states (i.e., New Mexico, Louisiana, Illinois, Iowa, Idaho, Colorado, & Utah) as well as the Public Health Service, Indian Health Service, the U.S. military, & the U.S. territory of Guam.

Additionally, they provide clinical/psychological assessments, psychotherapy, intelligence tests, & personality tests. They receive extensive knowledge & practice in psychopathology via research, coursework, externships/practica, clinical internship, & postdoctoral fellowships.
