It always amazes me how they just snap into the dance at the beginning. This whole dance is off the charts, as well as the whole movie. They were a group of very talented people.

Yes, Vera-Ellen's dancing talent was just unreal, and she had a super-worthy partner here in John Brascia. He was incredible.

I can't think of anyone at that time who had ANYTHING on Vera-Ellen.  I truly believe she was the best dancer of her time.  Superhuman.

John Brascia was featured dancer on Broadway and in several Hollywood musicals—one of the most athletic and controlled I have ever seen. He was also an actor in the 1970’s. Remarkable dancers both of them !! If you watch “Mandy” towards the end, he dances up the staircase for six and a half steps BACKWARDS. Amazing.

As brilliant as this dance number is, ( in my top 10 movie dance numbers of all time) the musical arrangement is pure fire!!!

Gosh, sometimes I really wish I knew how to dance. Watching the human body in motion is a delight and these two amaze me everytime I see this scene.

It’s crazy that some people back then thought her wonderfully toned legs were “too masculine” and “ugly.” She looks gorgeous and they are both dancing great!

So glad to finally know the name of this song. It has been stuck in my head. Love the dancing and love White Christmas

Both Ms Vera Ellen and Mr John Brascia had exhibited their great dance techniques and their exuberant and agile performances in this 1954 Paramount Pictures' classic film White Christmas. It's always been privileged, pleasant, and exciting for us the old-musical film aficionados to watch and to appreciate this kind of highly-amusing production number that was skillfully-choreographed by Mr Robert Alton and was eminently-displayed by the dynamic, talented, and fine-looking Ms Ellen and Mr Brasco.

How can she dance in heels like that! O.O

Yes, this is the melody for "Abraham" in Holiday Inn, but in White Christmas the tempo was changed, the lyrics and its importance to the storyline was dropped, and it was identified as "Jazzy Dance". The primary reason for this change was that the blackface routine used in the earlier movie was, by now, considered unenlightened and offensive. I am pretty sure that the original song could have preserved with some minor alterations but the producers of White Christmas preferred to deep six the song itself.

This is supposedly just a rehearsal, with both of them just dressed in whatever they happened to be wearing, but by chance the colors of their shoes match the rest of their outfits exactly.
