Great Tap Number 1954 (Vera-Ellen & John Brascia)

Here Vera-Ellen does a very fast paced tap number with John Brascia who was unfortunately another great dancer who is largely forgotten today. It is said that Vera-Ellen had an obsession about her weight and here she looks almost anorexic.

Many thanks for posting the best two minutes in the White Christmas movie. Anorexia was not confirmed, but Vera-Ellen's diet was unusual and sparse for the time - vegetarianism was considered "weird" and faddish in the 1950s. Vera-Ellen and Eleanor Powell were in a class of their own, as virtuosic dancers.

Laura agree with didn’t have a name for it when Vera started with it...if you watch her waist and legs between 1948 and 1954, you almost see the weight melting off her. Her head got too big for her body, as most Anorexics do. I’m not putting her, her talent, dancing, or anything else was beautiful and so very talented. I just wish she could have been helped.
