PHARMA OFFICIALS TESTIFY ABOUT CREATING OPIOID CRISIS: Last month, Purdue Pharma–the makers of OxyContin—pleaded guilty to three criminal charges for its responsibility in creating and sustaining the opioid epidemic within the United States. Medical experts blame OxyContin for contributing to the country’s opioid crisis, which has claimed over 470,000 American lives in the last 20 years. The $8.3 billion settlement does not release the company’s executives or owners from criminal liability, though members of the Sackler family, who own the drug manufacturing company and served on the company’s board, must pay $225 million to the federal government to settle civil claims. Two members of the Sackler family who have previously served on the company’s board of directors are testifying under oath before the House Oversight Committee about their role within the nationwide opioid epidemic.

Apologies don't do anything. Nor do they mean anything, not coming from people like this who did what they did on purpose. They absolutely are not sorry. It's so easy to say that without putting any meaning into it.

I also don't understand how we allow these big pharmaceutical companies to profit so much, when our taxes more or less pay for research, development, and production. Why do subsidize this if all the profit goes to them? The taxpayers should be reaping of profits and pay towards community and actual affordable quality treatment, but since they reap all the profits they should be required to do so

2:34:34 To correct the Kentucky Congressman, the US scores pretty low in healthcare out of the developed countries, (I'm sure is different for the small percentage that can afford access to the best treatment), and it is well known that the US subsidizes, using tax payer monies for research and development. They actively offer FDA govern workers high paying positions and copious amounts to lawmakers, whole system is corrupt
