We went to see our stone house, BEFORE we build it

Such an exciting week for us as we start the process of sourcing the reclaimed stone for the build of our traditional stone house in Portugal. We also move some of the bee colonies affected by the fires onto the farm to create a rescue apiary.

We’re John, Tara, Crusoe, and Sawyer Newby, a family of explorers who've settled in Northern Portugal. We’re currently renovating an abandoned farm into our dream off-grid homestead, and we’d love to take you along for the journey!

The stone is amazing. I agree the symmetry is so pleasing. I always consider the effect busy patterns have on my children. Too much chaotic pattern creates too much excitement, whereas symmetry creates a calming background. I think it helps them. Order in our homes stimulates safety and creativity.
