5'6, size 29, thick thighs here. Took to heart your advice on how jeans should fit, or at least make you look. I've found that Levi's have this "athletic" trim that works wonders for the thigh area, without having too much much fabric building up in the calf/ankle area. Assuming you got the right length size that is (which in my case is a 30).
