I just found this video 3 weeks after the end of TDF and am very happy to see such a comparison, while mainly most main-media jumped on the doping-train reproaches, here is a very physical explanation. Together with all the technical improvements on the bikes, the eating-strategies, etc. it creates a complete different picture.Thank you.

Thank you so much for this head-to-head showcase, where it is visible that is was not only watt's that changed the course of todays TT

This is a brilliant analysis. Vingegaard was far superior on the day and extremely focused on nailing it in every corner. Pogi wasn't quite upto that mark and given the fact that his legs didn't feel well either, massive gains for Vingegaard.

Say what you want about taking corners or the bike change, Vingegaard was just a level above Pogacar.

This was a masterclass in bike handling.
I never noticed Pogacar was a bad bike handler, but he probably isn't that bad; it's just that Vingegaard is really, really good and it shows here.

I really enjoyed your side by side comparison. I'm sure it was a nightmare for your editor to sync up ('thanks for your service' as our American friends would say!), but really showed the marginal gains in JV's line paying off. He took some big risks there.

Thanks for breaking it down. What an achievement by Vingegaard and TJV, and what a tremendous day for cycling it was! It was such a privilege to watch.

Well, it appears Jonas Vingegaard spent his rest day walking up and down the TT route to analyze all corners so maybe, his attention to those details really helped.
They have known the TT route for some time so it's pretty certain that Jonas already knew what wattage level he could sustain on the TT bike.
Well done.

Vingegaard and Team put A LOT of planning into that TT. Amazing to watch. 👍

Jonas mastered everything in ITT, starting from starting ramp, he gave all-in in every inch, where there would be enough even with climb section to win.

This TT really showed the big difference between Jumbo V. and UAE. At Jumbo, things take place on a completely different level. That it doesn't always go as Jumbo wants is another matter, but they prepare better than the UAE. You can compare it a bit with going to an exam. If you have read and prepared properly, you will get the best grade. And Jumbo had really prepared Jonas for the tour's only TT. All the key points were run over and over again until they were executed perfectly. I personally like pogacar's relaxed approach to things, but against Jumbo and Jonas, it's unfortunately not enough!

Great comparison. It was clear to see how much better Vingegaard was technically.

JV decided last March a bike change wasn’t the way to go. JV is just a much more professional team. And Jonas is a daredevil. The way he attacks the descent on a TT bike is breathtaking. Tom Dumoulin said it was the best Time Trial he has ever seen.
Sad these Pogey fanboys just keep dropping dope comments. Their boy got beaten by a better rider and a better team.

Jonas just put in a lot of effort, took significant risk and has brilliant technique.

Jonas Vingegaard’s cornering is better than Pogacar’s, you can see he always takes a wider apex and takes a much better line than Tadej on the descents.

Vingegaard take the stage like a rally driver. Taking all the advantages of the road.

Good job explaining to how Vingo gained so much time. Vingo was gaining time every kilometer and Pog lost 30 seconds with the bike change plus he’s getting tired. Wasted so much energy trying to win seconds where Vingo dropped 1:38 on Pog in one stage.

My own experience of TTs is on the day you either are on fire or you are not. Vinegaard clearly was burning hot like never before. Pogacar by the fact he free wheeled downhill must have been feeling a little off colour if he felt he needed to conserve energy over 22kms

What I find funny is that Jonas' attention to detail (doing several recons, studying every meter) is exactly how Pogi won in 2020 ahead of Roglič. It seems like TJV learned the lesson and UAE... un-learned it? What were they thinking? In what was being such a close battle until then they decide to not prepare the TT in the best way possible, even though they've literally already won a TDF that way? It's their main goal of the year, I really don't understand.
