How Not To Install A Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler!!

Показать описание

The precisely engineered Noctua Cooler is the premier choice when it comes to non water cooled systems. My painful experience can serve as a tool as to how to properly mount the NH-D15 to your CPU and case.

Because the orientation was less than ideal I decided to change it and because of a slight oversight....it took several attempts to do it correctly. Luckily I'm using a Fractal Design R5 which has lots of room to work in.
Watch and follow my agonizing journey on the road to cooler nirvana and get my X99 chipset 6800K get the cooling that it deserves!

If you decide to purchase the cooler and or some of the other item in the video, using my affiliate links would give me a small commission that helps the channel to keep going. Thanks so much.

For future reference, you don't need nearly as much thermal compound. It doesn't hurt to have extra, but it offers no benefit and it's annoying to clean up when there's so much of it.

At 13:38 by the looks of it, you'd need about third of the amount you use. Definitely less than a half.

Thank you for sharing this this cleared up a lot of things that I worried about seeing the mistake and the correct way to do something really helps you understand

LOL 16:28 " Come on " Plus the change in Music is Epic! 16:37 "it won't go in " LOL u put the curve in wrong. i know - what goes around comes around. I still gotta do mine. This is a great video. I was having a bad day until i seen this. We all make mistakes but your video has good comedy to it. You have great editing comic talent. I enjoyed your video.
I too had a bit of issues lining up the heatsink with those 2 brackets on my wife PC. My PC is next - again. Thumbs UP

Videos like this are surprising helpful. You are definitely NOT the first guy to go through this kind of drama installing a cpu cooler!

Don't worry about it, you persevered and got it done, that's the important thing. :) The NH-D15 isn't the easiest thing to install due to the sheer size when the MB is in the case, that's why they recommend installing it outside the case and then mount the motherboard. Either way, it's hard to get your hands in there for the ATX 12V cable, so either way you have to fight with it a little. The reviewers always make it look easy, so most people think it's that easy to do it in a minute, but not only do they cut through the process a lot, they have also done it probably hundreds of times.. :)

Good job on this video, not sure why people down voted this when it cleanly helps show what not to do.

Been there. When you work with a tower cooler for the first time always hides some pitfalls

I finished a whole new tube of thermal paste last night trying to install my Dh-15. Same issue the screws wouldn’t latch. Took a long time but it got there in the end. I’m going to check on the cooler latch in a week after the thermal paste has settled to see if I need to tighten it some more. In short the Dh-15 is a great cooler but the mounting process can be so annoying even if the brackets have been installed correctly. I thought it was a fault with my cooler and the screws. One google search and you’ll see so many people encountered the same problem. Again great cooler but be prepared to get annoyed if you have difficulties mounting it.

Way to maintain a patient state of mind. Looks like a tough bit of business. Well done!

I just installed this heatsink and fortunately was successfully in my first try. Initially, I didn't use their screw driver to screw in. I needed more pressure and the angle of that driver was off to me. So, I used my own long Phillips to set it up and then used their screw driver to tighten.

I’m curious what technique you discovered with your screw driver and the fan mounting springs?

I have installed 3 of these so far and found that you just need patience. If it’s not working out stop, move back and analyze what is causing the problem. Do not rush things. That is when mistakes happen. This is a great cooler and will serve you good if you just give it respect and effort it needs. This cooler works best when installed so it draws air from front of the case (where your front fans are pushing air towards it) and pushes air into the back of the case towards your exhaust fan. That way you get a straight path through your whole case if that makes sense.

That helped alot. I just bought a NH-d15. That thing is bigger than I thought.

I can give another tip don’t ever loose the screwing tool that comes in the box. Had to replace my mobo yesterday and had a hard time finding a screw driver this long.

Took a lot of courage to share your error with the world, especially with some of the infallible computer building geniuses that troll tech content on you tube spewing fourth their diahhorea bull shit in the comment sections.
Hats off to you mate!
Liked and subbed.
