I am in the bustling city of Kashgar, also known as the Uyghur Capital of China in Xinjiang Province. I am exploring the street markets and meet some incredibly nice people that share their culture with me. The Uyghurs look much different than the Han Chinese in the Eastern provinces. To me at some point it feels like being in another country.
In this video I want to show you the Uyghur culture in its lively capital Kashgar.

I am a Turkish person from Turkey. Last year, while traveling in Barcelona, I met a young woman who told me she was from Kashgar. We spoke in English for the first 20 minutes, but then her phone rang, and she began speaking in her native language. I was stunned—I could understand about 60% of the conversation. This video brought back that same feeling of surprise and connection.

As Turks, our ancestors once lived close to China (during the Göktürk and Hun Empires etc), but most of us migrated to other parts of the world in the 4th century. Despite this long separation, I still see striking similarities in the foods, language and cultures of the Uyghur people. It’s a makes me feel weird, happy and sad at the same time. I wish them all a very happy, healthy and long life, thank you for the video.
