I have a lot of CDs and DVDs, and I am still debating whether I should get rid of them or not. I also have a lot of books, and I keep buying more. My books? I will continue to drag those around with me, I will continue to allow them space in my home. For one, I like to read, and I prefer hard copy. It's easier on the eyes, I can dog ear pages, and can even write in them if the spirit moves me. I have also gotten rid of books in the past, and then ended up buying them again years later when I felt the need to read them again. So it just makes sense to keep them.

I have no intention of getting rid of my CD collection and plan to continue purchasing them. I have a CD player in my car, and enjoy listening to them on long drives. I wish I had saved my Alpine 6 CD player, that was trunk mounted in my Honda Civic when I sold it, but wasn't really thinking about it. 😔

I also like to watch DVD''s, and don't belong to any streaming services.

Yes, I'm "old fashioned"... I remember
45's, LP's, 8-tracks, cassettes, boom boxes, stereo systems! 🤗

Felt great after we donated all of our CD’s. I still listen to my favorite music through streaming. Yesterday was a 1960’s folk music day 😊

I love you guys, but you'll have to pull my CDs and DVDs from my cold, dead hands ;-) I happen to really hate streaming services for all kinds of reasons, but I know others don't see it that way and that's fine.

Give them to people who still have CD players and make them deal with it lol

Streaming music is bullshit. BUY music and support artists.

I built up an extremely large dvd collection over the years and it's something I still love and get joy from. The thing I didn't like was the amount of space they took up.... So I got rid of the cases only. The actual discs I kept and stored in a 300 cd wallet case which takes up probably 1/20th of the space 😀

Also, not saying you should do this, but you can convert DVD's and cd's to digital and store on a hard drive

Streaming music is fine and dandy until the internet connection drops, or the streaming service goes offline or shuts down forever.

Depends on whether you want to Subscribe to music or Own your copies?

I'm in a choir and the man who runs it also runs a choir for people with learning difficulties. Upon his suggestion I gave my cassettes and CDs to his other group and apparently they were much appreciated. And a while back a school for children with special needs were looking for a TV and video recorder combi. So search around for organisations that would appreciate your old mint condition clobber

I went through my CD collection and determined what do I still really listen to? I did make sure I had a digital copy saved that if I did want to listen to something but got rid of it, that I still had it backed up.

I do like to keep hard copies of some DVD"s and CD's simply because streaming services now a days can have your favorite song/ movie one day and then a few days later, maybe a month later or a year later it is gone. I can't tell you how many people I still see that are upset that the Office is no longer on Netflix....well if you did have the physical copy yourself you could pop it in at anytime and watch it. :)

The old adage whats old is new again comes to mind for me. For me as technology advances I don't want to necessarily keep advancing the forms of media I have because that itself can cause clutter in my life- my need to want what I had before and then still holding on to the old until the collection is complete, etc. Lots of wasted time, energy and money in a lot of senses.

Being an eBay seller, I sell a a fair few dvd's and blu rays every week. Lots of people still enjoy the quality and also features they have to offer. Personally I enjoy and prefer streaming as it reduces clutter. I'm slowly working towards my version of a Minimalist life style, yet in order to make money, I buy lots of old DVD's and used items to resell - go figure... haha

Not a minimalist but if I was I couldn’t imagine letting go of the CDs 😂 good set of speakers a player and an Amp is a world of difference from my phone. All this analog stuff lets your personality bleed through

By owning CDs you don't face the risk of it disappearing from a streaming service due to a copyright, royalties or some other dispute where it could be taken down.

Is there a way of either uploading those cd's to a cloud storage, or putting them on a portable hard drive?

Technology changes so fast it's hard to keep up. I have CD's and a player. I say to keep what you like as long as you want.

I love that you worked Henry Rollins name into this segment👍, I first heard the phrase "the more you own, the more it owns you" from him back in the mid 90's. Keep up the good work guys, big fan of you both, and Rollins too

I came here to get help on HOW to get rid of them. Obviously sell them but to who and how. Guess, I still need to figure it out.
