We'd all love to be driving around in BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C Class, but we can't all afford it. Thankfully German engineering isn't completely off limits to those with smaller budgets because there are cars like this, the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta. It's been updated for this model year, so let's take a look at what makes it different.

South Motors VW in Miami FL actually had 2 of these in stock. Actually test drove one. Was fairly impressed. Then they ran the numbers on a car prices at $23k MSRP, and I saw the $5, 000 dealer markup. Sales guy seemed like a nice guy, so I didn't react negatively. I just responded very matter of factly, that those numbers didn't work for me, specifically the $5k dealer markup. I understand the current market situation, and I understand people's/dealerships inherent greed. All that said, I'm not paying $30k for a fing almost base model VW Jetta. I have also advised VW of North America about this dealership. Nice enough car, but it's only worth it when you were able to negotiate below MSRP, certainly not $5k above MSRP.

I own a 2022 Jetta Sport and I am very satisfied with it. Compared to the Toyota Corolla I was also considering, it seems to me much more refined - less road and wind noise, comfortable ride, great cornering (I'm obviously not an enthusiast, just a daily commuter) and overall a very solid, almost Audi-like (I previously owned an A4) feel. IMHO, a great value for the price. And speaking of value, I routinely get 36 MPG around town and 48 MPG on the highway, and if I hypermile just a bit I can easily get 52 MPG.

The one thing I added was a spare tire and tire changing hardware (jack, etc.), which I bought from the dealer for $500.

I test drove one in Canada and it was very impressive. Feels solid, almost no road noise, looks elegant. Only downside is 6% interest. I will hold off until the market is back to normal!

I can honestly say this generation Jetta is conservative but rather attractive. Always liked the interior.

How did you cue the VW Bus to go by in the background at 7:46. Great videography!

The interior of this is much better than that of the 2022 Golf. Those capacitive touch "buttons" are deal breakers for many people. Reliability is still a concern though. Is this as reliable as the MK4 with the 2.0 engine, or the MK5 with the 2.5? Only time will tell.

You're wrong about the Jetta being the only one with a manual transmission, the Corolla has a manual transmission option, the Civic also has it, but the only way to get the Civic sedan with a manual transmission is the Si, otherwise you have to go for the hatchback.

I would never want anyone to ever lose there job so to V.W the person that designed the hexagonal cup holders maybe we need to take them off the cup holder team next time around

For a "Sport" trim, this is such a disappointment, VW could have easily add more steering wheel & weight, and firmer springs or larger anti-roll bars.
VW CEO clearly isn't spending much time in the office...

I Loved This Car It Should Compete Against The Kia K5 GT-Line.

No spare tire is a deal breaker. How about the 2023, does it come with a spare?

The slot compartment near the cup holders is for coins. Great car for the $!

Once upon a time, you bought a Jetta for its clean, handsome styling and good driving dynamics. It sounds like this generation ain't all that, to put it bluntly. Sloppy handling. Sloppy shifter. Pronounced turbo lag. The interior is probably the least classy Jetta interior made yet and seems to be inspired by Darth Vadar's helmet. The front end design has too much grill and the headlights have an awkward upward-pointed shape. This is the first Jetta ever with styling I really don't like. Hopefully, the facelift or next-gen will go back to typical clean and upscale VW styling and focus more on driving dynamics.

There still made in Mexico sadly, that's where it all goes wrong, the Jetta has always been known for being poorly manufactured because of that fact.
