Spiritual Growth - Key Steps to Spiritual Growth and Maturity in Christ - Spirituality

There are steps that you should take in order to grow as a Christian. You have taken the first step of accepting Jesus Christ into your heart, and so what do you need to do to grow spiritually? There are four things that are paramount for you to grow spiritually as a Christian.

1. You need to spend time in God's word

The bible is the word of God to you. You need to read and study the bible. Every word in the bible is inspired by God and literally carries the very breathe of God. Start reading the Gospel of John. The first four books of the New Testament are so vitally important for you to understand the Gospel. It is the word of God that will sustain you when you go through the most difficult seasons in your walk with God. You need to read God's Word on a continuous basis. Allow the word of God to impart the knowledge and the wisdom you will need to make right decisions and choices in your daily living.

2. You need to pray

What is prayer? Prayer is communicating with God. It's just that simple. You are talking to God. You don't need to change your voice or use King James language for God to hear you. All God wants, is genuineness and the sincerity of heart. God only listens and respond to prayers that come from a sincere heart. God does not only want to hear your mouth but your heart. God always looks at the heart.

3. You need to be part of the church

Now, God does not live only in the church. You should never "feel" God only in the church. The bible tells us that we are a church. You are a church. You are God's dwelling. A church is a place for fellowship and where you can hear the word of God. A church is a place where you can worship corporately with other believers. A church is a place where you can meet new friends and new people and start building new relationships that can be a blessing into your life.

Understand that the church is not perfect. Everyone is dealing with his or her own challenges. See the church as a hospital. Someone will agitate you. It could be an usher or even a pastor. Put your focus on God. You can never have a perfect church. Churches are full of imperfect people following the perfect God. It is important that you become involved in the church. Join a department and learn to serve and you will grow tremendously in your spiritual gifts.

4. Tell others about what God has done for you.

Share with others what God has done in your life. Tell others about the changes that you see in your life. We have not received salvation only to keep it to ourselves. We ought to share our lives with others. Jesus commands us to go to all the world to preach the Gospel of peace. It's not just for pastors only but for every believer to share the truth of God with those who have not received it. It is a great commission and not the great suggestion. There are friends who may not have received Christ. There are colleagues who may have not received salvation, even those who are the members of your own family. The bible says, the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few -- that means the quality of the people to reach them is rare. We are God's laborers. So, in whatever capacity or sphere of influence, we are to share the gospel with those who have not received the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

There are no steps in the growth and maturity of a christian. If you are still looking into what you must do, then you do not know the full gospel of God. Growth and maturity of a christian begins only when he/she UNDERSTAND AND REALLY BELIEVES the full gospel of God. Many churches are still NOT preaching the full gospel of God.
