Undisclosed side effects, addictions, and price gouging are commonplace within the industry, but likely the worst infraction of all time is Zantac. Zantac was the most popular over-the-counter medicine in the world, used for heartburn and acid reflux relief. It was sold by all the big pharmaceutical companies as a branded and generic medicine, claiming to bring relief to millions and millions of people. The truth, however, was that Zantac was hiding a dark secret. Under certain storage conditions, Zantac was known to produce excessive amounts of NDMA, a chemical with a strong correlation to cancer. Yet, this risk factor was never disclosed to the FDA and 77,000 people ended up developing various forms of cancer. Big pharma naturally accepts no responsibility, but that doesn’t change the fact that Zantac is one of the biggest scandals of the pharmaceutical industry.

The more I hear about Big Pharma, the more I understand why roosters start each day screaming.

My doctor tried to get me to take this for my GERD. I refused because I'd heard somewhere that it can cause stomach ulcers or other issues. That was 15 years ago. I would have been on it constantly for years. I did try it once for a week or two, but it and others like it didn't help my GERD. I even had prescription meds which helped some, but weren't a solution. Sodium Bicarbonate... baking soda in pill form... was my fix. I have to take a lot, and I burp like crazy for 10 minutes. But it works so well. After years of taking them constantly every day, my PH level (urine and non-blood fluids) went from about 5 to 6.8, and I rarely get acid indigestion most days. It was kind of a miracle for me. And it wasn't a hard core drug, or even something considered a drug by most people...

Thank you for posting this. I had no idea that Zantac could cause cancer. There were no warnings that I remember on the box. My husband complained of heartburn in early 2018 while we were stationed in Saudi Arabia. He was tested for H Pylori which was negative, and then he was given Zantac. He traveled over the summer and when he came back he went back to the doctor. She said that was too long for heartburn and sent him for tests. He had stomach cancer. He went through all the standard cancer treatments but passed away in 2022. He never drank or smoked, and was a pro golfer. I never knew how he could have gotten cancer. Maybe this is the reason.

I stopped eating white flour and my stomach acid issues went away. I just eat brown bread now.

I find most people would rather take a medication then change their diet or lifestyle. I cured type 2 diabetis with a low carb diet. I got off the insulin. My numbers are good. I tell my diabetic friends and they just wanna keep taking their pills and shots. I still take pills for some things like blood pressure, because Diet and exercise didn't get it under control, although it did help my blood pressure get much better into normal range. I try to take as few medications as possible.
