Some 20 million cases of cancer were diagnosed worldwide in 2022, up from 18 million in 2020. The WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer predicts that number would rise by 77% to 35 million by 2050. And in a disturbing worldwide trend, early-onset cancers - diagnosed in people under 50 - have increased globally by 79%. As the demographics of US cancer patients increasingly shift from older individuals to middle-aged people, evidence suggests that risk factors in early life and young adulthood, including diet, lifestyle, obesity, environment and the microbiome, all play a role in this shift.

CNA Correspondent takes a closer look at the various factors behind the trend, and finds out what cancer researchers are doing to understand this growing phenomenon. And it heads to one of the world's so-called Blue Zones to see what lessons can be learned from societies where many residents live to advanced, and healthy, old age.

Look at your clothing, bedsheets, etc

We're literally breathing in nylon, polyester, acrylic dust fibers.
We're eating and breathing in microplastics, synthetic materials.

😮🙏 Bad, unhealthy foods & drinks, lack of fresh air & less proper exercises & insufficient good sleep, living in more toxic environment & wearing more toxic materials, constant bombardment by electro-magnetic micro-waves, taking in more toxic drugs & addictive alcohol & vaping are some of the factors contributing to the rise of various cancers & diseases nowadays ... 😮🙏🕯🌏✌🕊

As a cancer survivor, I pray treatment gets better and they find more preventable causes. It sounds like generic testing would be a way to prevent case as well as environmental investigation of clusters.

It’s up to each of us to make the right choices for our health. Food, exercise, pollution, sleep etc. Of course, improvements in treatment are also very much needed.

Dr Robin has a very creepy smile and look when talking about the growth of cancer in the younger demographic. It's disconcerting.

The colorectal cancer could also be something this generation does that the former generations did not do. Red Bull and energy drinks come to mind, perhaps the taurine in them or something else. Could of course also be a more universal cause, like micro plastics.

This is how humans were supposed to live. Too bad the British Empire wrecked the planet.

In my opinion, all this is due to western diet (burger, chemical in foods...) and western way of life (industrial working style, individualism...).

Easy... Just keep your blood glucose level low all the time and not having a blood sugar spike.

How?? Before eat carbs or anything sweet incl. Honey and fruit.... First consume fiber or protein or fat.... Can be tomato, egg, meat, pure milk or avocado.

They will slow down the digestion thus slows down the sugar to get into blood stream.... So blood glucose level is pretty low thus no spike.

OR.... you can just reduce carbs and sweets intake up to 1/10 of your daily consumption...

Life is easier if you dont have too much sugar in your blood....

可憐的中國
I live in China. Everything is miserable here, but no one dares to complain.
Our *air, rivers, and soil* are contaminated with poisonous chemicals. My city experiences *record floods year after year.* This is the result of decades of environmental and infrastructure negligence.
Seriously if there is next life, I wish to be born in any other country, except China.
