From 14 min : when the language functions are affected, it is called Aphasia. Most of the times, it's global aphasia where both understanding & expression is affected for the next few hrs to days/ months.
Later it's either the understanding / expression / repetition depending upon the area of the brain affected. There are various types of aphasia.

In young kids or young adults, the recovery is faster depending upon the severity whereas in older patients the recovery is usually slow.

Sometimes only the speech is affected ie the clarity ( Dysarthria) or planning the articulatory movements needed to speak ( verbal apraxia).

Thank you doctors for the great insights!

Regards,
Speech Therapist from Bengaluru 😊
