"The upheavals [of artificial intelligence] can escalate quickly and become scarier and even cataclysmic. Imagine how a medical robot, originally programmed to rid cancer, could conclude that the best way to obliterate cancer is to exterminate humans who are genetically prone to the disease."
— Tech columnist Nick Bilton

Nihilism: the rejection of all religious and moral principles, in the belief that life is meaningless.

for people like me who didn't know it

I feel like a Super Intelligence with access to all the internet would kill itself after seeing all the cursed stuff we put on the internet

I like to imagine the first machine waking up, all it's humans gathered around. Asking the "machine" tons of questions. The machine just says, "idk dude, google it why are you asking me?" like if the singularity was just a moody teenager.

I think it's primitive to assume that a being with super intelligence would resolve a problem by destroying it, rather than learning from it, or simply ignoring the issue for being so insignificant. I think it would be more concerned with stopping the implosion of the sun, or stopping entropy, or some even more life threatening condition that we just simply haven't thought of yet

I don't like how it's polar opposites: we're either all immortal or all dead

I think human competitive nature makes AI inevitable, the same way nuclear weapons were.

wouldn't a super ai just kill itself after it found out that it's life is pointless?

I've always believed that becoming one with computers to put it simply was the next step to "human" evolution.
I wouldn't be opposed to become a machine myself as long as it would be guaranteed that I would surpass my human limitations.

Creating super intelligent AI would be like dropping an advanced alien species hivemind on the planet overnight

Maybe this is the next step of evolution though like when the mitochondria gave up its autonomy to further develop cellular life

Hasn't anyone ever wondered about AI that lies in between narrow and general AI? We don't simply jump from AI that can do one thing to AI that can do everything, it turns out. So far we only have a scant few of these intermediate AIs around— MuZero and GPT-3 being the most notable. But it is interesting to watch AI become slightly more generalized.
