Whittling A Ball In A Cage

Bryan whittles a ball in a cage. It's a fun whittling project that even a beginner can try. Most of the video is at high speed so people don't get too bored.

Hey man, thanks for doing this. My great grandfather had these all over his house, and many of them were attached to massive wooden chains hung all around. I'm sure this is not news to you, or to others on here, but I was always truly amazed by him, and by these things. I miss him greatly, and will be making these in honor of him. Also, in this crazy world, I would most definitely agree - the first step is DEFINITELY to "Block everything out"... Despite all my rage, I am still just a ball in a cage...

Well done Sir. I tried that back in the early 1970's, but only I carved a chain attached to it. It was called the widdlers challenge, and yes it was especially for a young boy.

This project is awesome I'm going to try to make this for my brother-in-law . Who bought me whitling and carving tools for Christmas. I want to make him this for his birthday.
I know that it would blow his mind. Then maybe for my birthday he will buy me more cool tools.
Thank you for making this video. I think everybody who posts on YouTube is extremely brave to put themselves out there for criticism or positivity.

awesome vid ...but just a psa .. if you make the thing as big as the whole piece of wood be very careful to not have your fingers in the carved out parts while holding onto the piece and working ....i had to go to the hospital to get stiches and just cut myself again bc of not being careful enough so don't repeat my mistake!!

Enjoying the vid so far man, just some slight input. I'd suggest when recording do the initial recording as per usual, then do a separate voice recording taking about the piece you're working on such as the techniques, steps you're taking to achieve the desired design, maybe some tips about working with certain woods, exc.

Otherwise I totally love the vid man, keep making more.

The ball in the cage is Good, But, how cool are those knife handles ??? Did you make them yourself ? Or buy in store or online ?? Never seen any like that before. Good luck, cheers, Les.

I saw you put some foam it looks like as a protector for the blade, I would recommend cork, it fits easy and doesn’t cut through. :)

Could you just drill out the parts that need to be hollowed out so you aren't doing so much with the knife?
