The resistance bands are from jimartialarts.com (link in my bio). Code ANDRII11 gets you 10% off and supports me as a creator

I was at a gym where a coach ruptured my eardrum on my second day. I came for a fundamentals lesson and he made it a sparring day

The third one is hard, because, when you're starting, you don't have the knowledge yet to know they're using a correct technique.

Talking to the bag like it’s a person 😂

I talk to my punching bag, because its been with me so long, and has helped me improve so much. Its like a good friend. Not the kind of talking where you actually think its a person, but like talking to stuff like it means a lot to you.

1. You can't remember what you ate this morning
2. You have anger outbursts
3. You want to have a functioning brain

It's hilarious that the first one was criminal activity 😂

Yup a friend of mine that does muay thai said he got tf out of the first gym he encountered because of 40 yrs old beating up teenagers like they owed them money. Even when asked to slow down, the older guys would just smash them.

I'd say bad sparring partners are a big red flag, they can literally make or break your career

I see first two of them in my boxing gym. It seems like I have to turn my living room into a boxing gym.

Good observations there. I practice boxing and kickboxing for many years and I have changed five gyms(plus other four I have tested and not becoming a member). It all depends on the coach, if he allows bad behaviours and letting shady people join the gym then he is a bad professional. Don't let the chance of trying different gyms go if something bothers you especially if you live in a place with many options. You are not obliged to stay in one place forever. I forced myself to change my boxing gym after eight years because a new coach took over and things went to shit. The thing that matters most is to train and to have a good mood in order to keep moving.

Man after reading all those comments I'm so glad my boxing gym is so chill, the first time i went(first time boxing, started 3 weeks ago) and just talked to the coach he specifically said if you wanna act tough you're out, leave all anger outside the gym, or give it to the punching bag.

The challenge with choosing a boxing gym is that you don’t know the sweet science so you lack a deep enough understanding of what to look for. Many folks go where there are name fighters or at least the gym has had a lot of success with their fighters winning tournaments. The problem with this is that sometimes fighters can be good in spite of the coaches and not necessarily because of them. This can be tricky to figure out. One of the keys to me is if the gym teaches defense. I’m not just talking about fancy mitt work. I’m talking footwork, slipping, rolling, blocking and drills. Most gyms focus on offense with a sprinkle of defensive moves. Ask the coaches approach to teaching defense. If they don’t want to answer you (unless they are in the middle of something), you may want to go somewhere else. It’s also important to just watch them train folks.

Lucky for me, I have a coach who was taught by some of the best BJJ instructors out there. He’s a black belt but he knows so much. He’s even come up with some really beautiful BJJ techniques. He used to fight MMA but he’s retired now. He also has a deep background in Muay Thai and karate as well as ninjutsu. He’s a badass.

I used to go to a gym where coaches would let dudes spar without mouthpiece in 10 oz gloves...

Boxing ain't for everyone. Too dangerous on the brain but still you have to know how to fight

No headgears in site, no ring "coach" stares at the phone while "coaching" guys that dont even know the stance are sparring and they are sparring hard too😂

The first one applied to one of my gyms. My coach was shady, the people training in that gym were shady, I was definitely shady at the time, part of the reason I was training. It was only when I got to that gym that didn’t take choosing your fights seriously, that I stopped doing just that. Got in trouble and wasn’t allowed to train anymore in a gym until record expungement at 18.

A lot of criminal activity. I had a dad and his son, both looked like the biggest thugs. Found out his dad was apart of a cocaine smuggling gang and now is on the run worldwide and his son is a full psycho who happily gives out knee capping for fun. Left that place as quick as I could. Fight gyms you meet the best people, but some are very dangerous.
