Mission Gold Vs. Holbein Watercolors Compare and Contrast

Since both Holbein and Misson Gold watercolros come from Asia I decided to see how they looked side by side. I use the set of 24 for each of these.

I swatch out all the colors (plus a few more) so you can see what is similar and what is different between the two different sets.

Enjoy the painting and the video. Thanks for checking it out. Please feel free to like and share the video, and subscribe to my channel. I do post videos every week, so be sure to check back again soon.

Some of my paintings may be available on Etsy.

Thanks for the video 👍 great comparison.

I have mission gold in a pallet for more than a year. They never dry up to hard cakes and do not need pre wetting.

It would be interesting to see this comparison done matching up the actual pigments by code and not name since the names are so different by brand, for example putting mission “cerulean” against Phthalo blue green shade which is what it really is, and cerulean and cobalt cerulean to compare the same pigments brand to brand, as well as to utilize their newly formulated single pigment versions of many of the pigments used here like Burnt Sienna.
In all i enjoyed the watch and hope to see an update with the same in depth reviews :-) Thanks

Yeah, the cerulean is a pthalo blue RS. I don't care, as the price and value of the 24 single pigment set accommodates that. Also, the Mijello doesn't use ox gall, so their paints don't charge as much as others. I'm ok with that, the way I paint. You can add a surfactant to your water if you want more movement

Michael, I hope there will be a part two? I was really interested in your overall opinion regarding the Mission paints as compared to your other two sets, since I have no other sets to compare to...
Thanks for your thoughts as you went along

Love, love, love mission gold, they are so luminous and great for realism. If you want movement though you need ox gall adding in the water as they don’t contain it. I prefer them as they are. They are also honey based.

I would like to learn about pigment numbers, is there a book or website, how did you learn?

So which one you choose between this two?

Py150 is nickel azo yellow and it makes things kind of glowy. Maybe that is why they add it to everything? With all the multiple pigments it makes me leery to try either holbein or mission gold... also I have A LOT of paint, I still love trying new kinds :) thanks for your video.

ohhh! thank you so much for sharing this video with us! :) it was very interesting to see the colour range comparison of the two sets. may I ask... how well do the holbein, mijello mission, and m.graham cure(dry) in your palettes in comparison to each other? i have some sennelier paints that people have said to dry similarly to m.graham but i'm not liking that they stay rather 'moist and soft' so i'm looking for another brand that will cure 'dry-er' in my palette. any advice would greatly be appreciated! hope you're having a nice day!

So far I just have MGRAHAM paints. I liked yout demostration of the Mission Gold paints and the Holbein sets. I like the Mission Gold set best. Can you tell me if the palletts are sold separately? I enjoy your live chat on Wednesday night. Where did you buy the Mission Gold set of paints?
