As a former welder who was fully certified I’ll tell you this….go take a free or cheap class somewhere. Try it. If you TRULY enjoy it, stick with it. If it’s just a job then try something else like NDT. That specifically is easy to quickly work your way up. Do your homework but I’m talking level 2 inspector within a year and 150% my highest wage as a welder. Oh and the work is so much easier on the body. Good luck out there, we do need welders! Maybe I’ll go back when the old timers retire and the companies have their “oh shit” moment 🤷‍♂️

As a welder who went to school and also worked in the industry. 1. You are most likely not going to start welding by buying your own truck and gear and going to the pipeline. Most likely going to be a factory of some sorts. 2. This isn’t a bad thing. You get to use real equipment that gets 20 hours of use a day and is not maintained by the school. You’re gonna be cranking up the heat and moving fast. 3 quit that job and use the real experience you got from 8 hours plus a day 6 days a week staring at a puddle. You now weld on autopilot. Go get that truck with the money you saved.

Wouldn't worry about that. A trade is the best I'm a welder and structural steel fitter making the beams and columns. That 45 an hour and 20 per diem. Is nothing but a pipe dream. Best I can do is 20 an hour 401k and 1 week paid vacation after 6 months and paid holidays but you have to work the week before and after to get it

Yes yes yes!!!! Love the couple f150 shoutouts in this video. You do not need to go overboard with you weld rig and you can absolutely beef up the ass end of an f150 well beyond what you’d need to handle the added weight back there.

I love welding! ONG. I'm honesty stoked about my future! I'm an advanced welder student RN. I could nerd out about welding all day and love welding pipe all day. Fire yes 🔥 I love fire. It's like traveling to another universe when the hoods down. It's like creating my own lava flow and making it perfect. YAS.

Get a Sprinter 3500 van, which is already a dually, throw the welder in the back, add a campervan style awning, fridge, and grill ouside. If you're gonna work on site, make it comfortable
