Hello friends, in this video I will show you step by step how to build what I call the PIFI. It's a Roon Endpoint music streamer using the Raspberry Pi and a top hat DAC. The parts list is listed below as well as on my website here:

Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 8GB:

HiFiBerry Dac2Pro:

White Steel Metal Case:

iFi iPower Low Noise DC 5v Power Supply:

SanDisk Memory Card:

RCA Cables:

Tool Kit:

The Software to load on your SanDisk Card to make it into a Roon Ready End Point can be found here:

I've built exactly the same PIFI one year ago with different I2S DAC. If I had a guide like yours it would have been very easier. Thank you so much for sharing and supporting audio community, great job.

Although it doesn't have a dac, God bless the late and great Chromecast audio!🙄🤔🤫😉😇

I have almost the exact setup as you. I went with an acrylic case to enhance the wifi connection. Apparently, the metal case can cause a problem at times.

I'm getting the digi + pro hat personally that way I can run it into whatever dac I want instead of being tied to that one dac so it's really just a transport into my dac

Thanks, helpful video. Wish I knew more about how well the thing works. Will Spotify see a PiFi as a connected device?

I need to get digital signal from a Mac mini via Wi-Fi to an endpoint without a DAC since I will feed the signal to a McIntosh D-150 which has a DAC onboard. How do I do this without installing a DAC on a Pi? I need to use the McIntosh to decode DSD files. Thanks.

Wouldn't a USB DAC work ok if you didn't want to buy a hat and new case?

Ropieee didn't work for me. The whole setup failed. I ended up using Volumio's Roon plugin.

I am always concerned about short and long term support. What happens if you assemble all this and it doesn't work? Worse, what if it goes dark a year and a half from now? Will you be able to fix and debug it?
For long term support reasons, I picked a cheap iPad ($250), the Camera adapter ($35), and I already had a Schiit USB input DAC ($99). The iPad sends 24/192K to the DAC. The iPad screen makes UI a breeze. I expect streaming software to continue to support the iPad iOS for a very long time.
But, of course, this lacks the DIY self satisfaction. -Just one man's view

Doesn't the pi 4b have wifi? Is that not possible instead of wired connection?

Too much on assembly not much on the software side and full operation so a bit useless
