Turn Your Home PC Into a Roon Core

Setting up your Roon Core on your PC is actually easier than you may think. In this video, I briefly go over the initial setup process. I will be releasing a video in the coming weeks on how to create a Roon endpoint with your Raspberry Pi music streamer (PIFI).

Roon is some good Schiit ! I love how smooth is swapping between endpoints and dunno if it's just me, but it makes everything sound better.


Aside from that, I dont get why most people insist you need at least a NUC to run the Roon Core.
I run it on a mini pc, almost a thin client in specs for today's standards and I am not seeing any difference from when I run it on my gaming rig which is a lot more resourceful.

HW: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU J3355 @ 2.00GHz, 4GB of RAM and an old M.2 Toshiba SSD
OS: Arch Linux with Roon Core on top
Output: Schiit Modi 3 and then onto a NAD C 316BEE Amp

Resources usage when playing Tidal or local WAV/FLAC files:
CPU tops at 35%
RAM tops at 40%

I discovered Roon five months ago.Started as trial but within a week I decided to purchase a lifetime subscription. Incredible software, great sound, DSP processing, EQ and the most important is UI. This is how streaming around a house should be done.

I like ROON so much I use it in my car. NUC in the back and 5g tablet as 'router' and 12.4 inch screen to view that beautiful interface. NUC feeds a topping d10 and Into ddrc22d Dirac box then hits dsp and into amplifiers.

I never want to get out of the car.

This is a really informative video. I've just upgraded my Hi Fi system and I'm also waiting to take delivery of a new Macbook Pro MAX. I have a Marantz SA10 SACD Player that is Roon compatible and intend to install Roon on my new Macbook, using my i-phone as the user interface. At least that's my plan. I'm not 100% confident and need to do a bit more research- this video has been really helpful.

I have an older MacBook Pro and a spare 4TB SSD drive. I was thinking of setting up Roon on that vs. investing a bunch of cash in a Nucleus since I’m not 100% sure I want to stay with the platform. Thoughts?
