Let's play Pokémon Generation 1 (Red/Blue) as the developers intended!
Playing through Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue versions--yellow is very different and deserves a separate video!
We look at the best starter pokemon, strategy for all gyms, type advantages that work best in the Pokémon Red/blue metagame, elite four, and do all the NPC trades.

I did *not* know that Oak gives you balls if you don't catch Pokemon, and I'm amazed that there is still tidbits about these games that I still haven't heard of.

if the lavender tower escape rope isnt a mistake, it might be a really bleak joke

You’ve managed to make “sucking the fun out of a game by overoptimizing” fun to watch. Keep up the good work!

I had no idea Professor Oak gave you 5 pokeballs if you go back to him with just your Starter after defeating Blue the second time.

"Hence, Bulbasaur is CLEARLY the best starter Pokemon."

My brother in Christ, you have just made an enemy out of every Pokemon speed-runner in existence. Fantastic video as always! I'd love to see more Pokemon content! ^_^

I like the idea of the devs reacting to everyone keeping their starter to the end like: "Why would anyone do that? It's just supposed to get you started"

As someone who was already in his late teens when pokemon first came out I ignored it until in my mid-30s. And now in my early 40s I have played almost every game. The presentation and story and one thing, but the game behind it was always very good.

I consume an obscene amount of pokemon content. From challenge runs, to wifi battles, nuzlockes, to shiny hunting. I'm 3 minutes in and I know this is going to be fire. Excite

Full of twists and very informative. The hour I spent on this just flew by.

Always interested in these runs, like examining ludo-narrative and how the game mechanically sets you up in a "suggested path". As someone who has a lot of interests in information systems but also has ADD (so I have trouble noticing the systems, or following the "suggested path") its super cool to see your analysis and conclusion for these videos, keep it up!

I was waiting for all the music jokes mothy usually makes and then I noticed the segment title puns.

Celadon Dione? Fuchsia Ronan?? Cinnabar Toast Crunch??? Love it

Disable in Gen 1 actually selects a random move to disable, so Leer getting Disabled was actually pure chance. Great video! Loved it and greatly appreciate the effort you put into this.

Edit: at 43:15 or so you mention using sturdy Normal Types to wall Psychic Types, such as Snorlax or Kanghaskhan. Kanghaskhan actually has very poor Special in Gen 1, so while it certainly can take Special hits due to its pretty good HP, it certainly isn't gonna tank them. Lickitung is very similar in that regard. Chansey, Wigglytuff, Snorlax and Clefable all have very high HP stats with good enough (or in Chansey's case just actually really good) Special that allows them to tank Special moves very well.

I really did not expect one of my favourite childhood games to come up on your channel. I am so happy about this!

Got recommended ur postgame kanto tierlist (which in itself was very funny and entertaining as a genuine look at it) and holyyy cow this was one of the most interesting playthroughs that wasn’t a straight up challenge run I’ve watched. So many team members, engaging with all the mechanics- it’s glorious. Will definitely be watching your other Pokémon vids and might try to take a peak at a few of the other games you cover too. (Although im unfamiliar with basically all of them) Sub well earned!

I'm so happy to see you continue this type of analysis to other video games! While it's still hard to apply it to blind playthrough, it does make me appreciate the various developers decisions in their video games. Keep up the great work!

>the pokedoll glitch was intended by the devs
Yes, that's why they removed it from FRLG. Because it was intentioinal. also, i'm pretty sure snorlax is the intended sabrina killer. high special, high attack, amnesia, it gives two different oppurtunities to pick it up.
