As scientists unravel the ways that genetic inheritance and aging influence the function of a person’s cells, tissues and organs, they are also finding new ways to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases. In his Front Row lecture, Scripps Research professor Jeff Kelly shares his research into a broad set of disorders where aberrantly folded proteins lead to degeneration of the heart and/or nervous system. He explain hows his research led to the first regulatory agency-approved therapy for these so-called amyloid diseases and how he and his team are developing future precision therapies for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation by Jeff Kelly . I read of his award earlier this week in the SD Union Tribune and it was an honor to see and hear him today. The focus and determination of scientist such as Jeff Kelly serves as a gift to all of us. I am thoroughly enjoying The Front Row and look forward to future lectures. I am an 82 yr. old gramma with a thirst for learning still part of my body and spirit. Thank you for this opportunity.
