Hurricane Smith -Oh Babe What Would You Say-Lyrics
As I have hoped for half a chance
To even ask if I could dance with you, you oo
Would you greet me or politely turn away
Would there suddenly be sunshine on a cold and rainy day
Oh, Babe
What would you say

For there are you sweet lollipops
Here am I with such a lot to say, hey hey
Just to walk with you along the Milky Way
To caress you through the night time
Bring you flowers everyday
Oh Babe
What would you say

Just so, Baby I know
I know I could be so in love with you
And I know that I could make you love me too
And if I could only hear you say you do, oo oo oo oo
But anyway
What would you say

Just so, Baby I know
I know I could be so in love with you
And I know that I could make you love me too
And if I could only hear you say you do, oo oo oo oo
But anyway
What would you say

Man this song brings back some good memories when life was good and everybody in my family was still alive and well😢.

My boyfriend and I would always, always sing this song in the car when we were together. I miss the 1970's and him very much.
My forever love.❤️

RIP Norman "Hurricane" Smith. Your name deserves to be in the Hall of Fame for this piece alone, which never fails to incite nostalgia in all generations.

Born in 1923 in Edmonton, London, Norman Smith was a RAF glider pilot during World War II and later a successful jazz musician.  In 1959 he joined EMI Records as a sound engineer and worked on all the Beatles studio recordings until 1965, totaling 100 songs.  In 1972 he had the hit song above using the name 'Hurricane Smith'.  I can't imagine anyone else having as much success with "Oh, Babe, What Would You Say?" as he did.  He continued working until 2007 before his died in 2008 at 85. What a great voice - what a remarkable life!

Hurricane with that unique voice is the only one that could pull this off with this song

Norman Smith was an enormously talented engineer who recorded over 100 songs for the Beatles, three Pink Floyd albums, and much more. He died in 2008 at the age of 85, and will be sorely missed.

The first time I heard this song I was going 100 MPH on the Expressway leaving Philadelphia in my Yellow 1970 Chevy Nova, after a really bad date and feeling terrible and this song came on  and I slowed down to live another day! I have loved this song ever since and I thank you for this wonderful song and Video! BE WELL!

Always loved this song. It means the summer of 1972. Indelibly.

His voice is to mimic the music of the early of the 20's and 30's. It's not that he has a terrible voice, that's what music sounded like.

On this day in 1973 {March 3rd} Hurricane Smith performed "Oh Babe What Would You Say" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'...
Three months earlier on December 2nd, 1972 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #3 and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #4 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart...
And five years ago today on March 3rd, 2008 Hurricane Smith passed away at the age of 85...
R.I.P. Mr. Smith and Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}...

Thanks to sitcom Frazier the one episode where he embarrasses his date singing joyfully to her ( this song ) ..
I am reminded this song still exists and I drop everything to YouTube it .. Then I remember so much how I loved hearing it back then ! I was like 7 or 8 when it came out and when I hear it I wish I was back in them days !
Amazing songs and those days are gone but thanks to YouTube we have records of these times !
Thanks YouTube !!!
And thank you to the one who took the time to put this combo together ❤ .. It is PERFECT !!

I remembered this song back in 1972 during my high school days in late 1972-1973 and it stuck in my mind during those years as a Freshman year for me. I wasn't thinking of sex/drugs then, I was thinking of just making it through high school and just having fun with other friends and learn as much as possible and make good grades.

Fantastic song teamed with some great dancing from the 40's. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the dancing is from a German Movie made during WW2.

I'm cold here in Cleveland and decided to play some 45's to warm up a bit while working on some fixit projects. Here was one of my faves - it got me dancing right away. Such a sweet little song....so timeless...

I was 10 years old in 1972 . KFRC was my favorite radio station and I liked the TV shows like MASH, Emergency, Sanford & Son, and The Streets of San Francisco that debut that year .
