Americans Try Australian Snacks

WE LOVE SNACKS! And Australia, you've got a pretty promising snack game. Seriously, one of our favorite things is a big box of mysterious snacks from another country... especially if there are heaps of chocolatey goodies inside. This time we're headed down under to test out some treats coming to us directly from Adelaide. And DANG was it a delicious trip. Natalie turned into Gollum, and Tara may have to join the FruChoco Appreciation Society. To put it simply, Australias got it going on in the sweet department.

THANK YOU long time subscriber Lock Picking Engineer for sending us this box of goodies. You're always a delight to have in our little corner of the internet.

Wanna send us some snacks?

Hi ladies. Happy Friday. You both look lovely as always. Anytime that you both upload a video of you both trying snacks from other countries, I have to click on just to hear your thoughts and see your reactions. I have an Uncle Gil who lives in Australia and I am sure that he has had these snacks at one time or another. He's the only Filipino that I know with an Aussie accent. I always enjoy your videos and your lovely selves. Thanks for being such a positive reason to watch you both as your videos always cheer me up and get me out of my dark place mentally. Have a wonderful weekend ladies. Be well and stay safe out there.

Your comment about trying to make something else and calling it cow pats is hilarious. My wife used to sell fresh made fruit jellies at our local arts and craft fair. One year she was given some fresh pears so nothing to do but make pear jelly. Unfortunately it didn’t jell and was runny She was ready to throw it out but I convinced her to call it pear honey. Long story short she sold out of it and the next year people came by her booth asking for more pear honey. Lol

Watched this one right after watching the “Middle Eastern Snack Box” episode. I love it when you try snacks. It’s always so entertaining and funny! Also, the music in both videos was outstanding! I’m still loving my Neuro Mints. Thanks!

The violet in the name is a play on Violent Crumble because of how it shatters when you bit it & it comes in a purple/violet wrapper because of that & it's original Cadburys connection. Also dip the YoYo cookies in a hot tea or coffee before eating, be quick though. Also South Australian licorice wise you need to try the Darrel Lee Licorice allsorts. They break up that intense licorice flavor a bit & make it more palatable for Americans, I've converted a couple of yanks to real licorice using them as a stepping stone. .

I understand there was originally supposed to be some do-it-yourself kangaroo jerky, but it kept kicking its way out of the box! :)

Aw, not all Americans hate licorice. My mom adored the stuff! I like it in small quantities. I am guessing you don't like star anise, either.

Who sends an Aussie snacks care package and doesn't include musk sticks at least!? Lock picking Engineer? Where are you, I just wanna talk...

The name of the Cow Pat thing was probably not the original name. I think they wanted to make the chocolate covered fruit because chocolate covered apricots are delicious, and somebody said "it looks like a cow pat" and the name stuck ...

I feel the sheep nuts might be like bridge mix here in the US.

Robern Menz Confectionery in Adelaide has been a longstanding tradition, especially their Fruchoc; the original Fruchoc was made with a mixture of apricot and peach together. The range of chocolate and sweets are amazing. The Violet Crumble is named after the wife of the original confectionery Mr.Hoadley, who also produced another classic treat called a Polly Waffle; this too was removed from the market after Nestle acquired Hoadley's Chocolates, but likewise Menz have acquired the intellectual property rights for this. But as to date have not released it, due to technical difficulties when Nestle sold of the machinery needed to produce it; the Polly Waffle is a waffle tube filled with a soft marshmallow and coated in dairy milk chocolate.

Great video. I really enjoy the tasting episodes, almost as much as the cooking episodes. I've always loved black licorice for that bracing, bitter, tongue-numbing sensation, but I can definitely understand why a lot of people would have an aversion to it. It certainly seems to be one of those love it or hate it foods, which is often the case with things that have a very unique and striking flavor, like black licorice or blue cheese or Marmite or even candy corn. Then again, maybe it's a genetic thing like cilantro. It certainly seems to be more of an inborn thing than an acquired taste.

Why apricot? Because corn kernals in candy is just wrong. =-)
Sheep nuts sounds similar to Bridge Mix (at least whats called Bridge Mix here in Canada).

Could not contain myself any longer and just had to interject the fact that cow pats, aka cow patties, more properly known as Bovine Excrement!

I would curate a Stockton Snack Box, but I think there are laws against sending meth, ammunition and Colt 45 tall boys through the mail.

About the only thing I've heard of in that box is the Violet Crumble and the Haighs chocolates.

I'll try and send you some Darrel Lea goodies and Tim Tams with your Christmas card. I don't know any local Queensland goodies unfortunately. 😫
Tara I remember you wanting to try hundreds and thousands cookies too so I'll send some of them
