I didn’t grow up in an environment where proper dental hygiene outside of brushing (and even that wasn’t taught properly) was taught. As an adult I started water flossing after finally paying for my own Invisalign. Then after water flossing for a year I started using regular floss too. It made a huge difference. Thank you for these videos it truly helps.

I'm a braces patient, so I use water flosser AND an platypus pick. It helps a ton and my dentist said I had beautiful teeth!

I think the water flosser is amazing at keeping gum disease under control. I bought one recently and have seen very good results. I had been struggling with red, swollen and stinky gums for years despite being really good with my oral hygiene, eating mostly healthy and never missing a dentist appointment. I brushed twice daily and flossed once. I looked up a lot of video tutorials on brushing and flossing to make sure I used the right technique. I even tried various supplements that were supposed to improve gum health. Nothing worked and I started to feel really hopeless...until I got my water flosser. That finally did the trick. Interestingly, my gums never bled when brushing or flossing despite them being unhealthy but when I started using the water flosser they bled like crazy the first few times and it was a bit painful. I think that's because it reaches areas that the brush or floss can't reach. Now my gums appear much healthier. They're less red, less sensitive, the smell is gone and the occasional discomfort I would feel in my gums I haven't felt in a long time now. I'm still using string floss though.

I’m a hygienist in Georgia and I love your videos! I not only learn little bits of info from time to time, I am validated in what I am telling patients! We are definitely in sync. Keep putting out these fun and informative videos! Love them

I’m going to start playing these videos for my 5th grade students in the morning. I think they’d love you and they may be inspired to take better care of their toofs!

Feel like the waterpik is more competitive towards interdental brushes. They focus on the triangle (where the gum line is in between teeth), whilst string floss also skids through the contact areas between teeth (the part that two teeth touch together in the middle part.)

That being said, waterpik is faster at cleaning, money saver long term (waste-wise), smaller diameter (interdental brushes always have a size concern that somehow can't pass through to the back of the teeth), less wasteful (not disposable), and more versatile (clorhexidine mouthwash can be mixed in with the water for antibacterial properties, leaving a lingering effect interdentally that normal mouthwash swishing usually can't. The pressure can also be chosen, whereas interdental brush depends on the size and will almost always promote bleeding) Waterpik is better than interdental brush, but works better with string floss, tooth brush, and mouthwash.

Tooth brush takes care of the tooth surfaces that reduces food to mush, waterpik for the food particles that get under the gums, string floss for the contact points between teeth, and then Mouthwash gargle and swish for a fresh odor and antibacterial for the throat, tongue, roof and floor of the mouth, and cheeks

Hello Whitney, I'm one of the ones who has to force myself to string floss. I prefer to use my water flosser, interdental brush, floss picks and rubber tip tool. I established an oral care routine along with your dental tips and my dentist sees so much improvement.

I had pretty bad gingivitis several years ago. I’d never even heard of water flossing, but to use string at the time was pretty much torture, as my gums would bleed and hurt every time I tried, so I didn’t. At my last deep cleaning the hygienist suggested water flossing, and that’s what I started doing. Eventually I was able to add regular flossing to my routine without making my sink look like a murder scene, but I still use the water flosser because it feels so good on the mouth.

I do both. It's tiring but I have to do what I have to do to prevent cavities and gum disease.

Yes, I never used any. Always kept my teeth clean and regular dental visits since my mum brought me on the eruption of my first permanent tooth. Now I'm old, but apart from wisdom teeth, never lost a tooth to decay and no fillings. I do have one crown on a tooth broken in a mountaineering accident. I never flossed but brushed very well. Recently got a water flosser out of curiosity, and I enjoy using it. I can't say it's improved my situation as it's already pretty good, but it certainly doesn't do any harm and is good gum stimulation I'm sure. The real trick that beats all, stay away from sugary fruit juice and soft drink, candy, sugary cereals, stay away from disgusting cigarettes, get your Vitamin D and other essential nutrients. Gum and tooth health comes from within even more than brushing etc. Of course, visit your dentist or dental hygienist regularly!

I recently purchased the Sonicare system! It’s made a massive difference for me. I also have the Sonicare toothbrush. Using both everyday has certainly helped! I have a permanent retainer and somewhat tight teeth. My biggest issue was, I would break floss every time I would try string. I’ve noticed a lot less plaque and tarter, especially at the permanent retainer. I’m curious to see what my dentist has to say, next checkup. Also… I absolutely adore your videos. I never really had excellent oral hygiene, and now it’s much much better! You certainly have a way of explaining things in an entertaining and interesting way. Thanks for all you do!

I’m so glad I looked this up. I was about to drop my string floss after I found out water floss. I watched your “how to floss” video and it helped me immensely. Although flossing is still hard for me because most of the time after manoeuvring the strings my fingers get slippy and it’s hard to reach the back parts of my teeth, I’m still going to floss consistently now (I hope). Thank you so much!
