Navy Reserve Surface Warfare Officer

@sarsfieldusmc she more than likely did enlisted time, either she's an LDO or was in the STA-21 program, either way she had to have been enlisted for a decent period of time. Reservists put in the same time for promotion than active duty. Plus shes a SWO which is a pretty competetive designation for officers. There are way more SWO's than any other officer community so it makes sense that she's only an LT.

@sarsfieldusmc it could be that she is counting her reserve time in that 14 years. Harder to rank up once in the reserve as you are not on active duty anywhere near as long

There's something I don't understand about the Navy Reserve. Every state has NOSCs, and people drill there once a month, but what kind of rates are available to drill-status reservists? I'm assuming a state like Michigan (which has no Navy ships) would not have any Boatswain's Mates or Surface Warfare Officers...am I right?

My time as an Active SWO was great. My time as a Reserve SWO was nice for me, but a bloated joke. As a Reserve SWO, I spent a month doing nothing in Crete. I went back again to do nothing for another month. I spent another month in Naples, Italy doing nothing. I spent another 32 days riding a civilian ship from Spain to Dubai, doing nothing. I left the Navy after that. Navy Reserve Officers are a bunch of people who are only in the Navy because they don't make enough money in their civilian job, and couldn't "hack it" in the Active Navy. They are an unimpressive bunch of guys. So, I left.

It's working for her.. That's all that matters... The value of women on ships remains to be seen... Theres more than ever before.. Not changing any time soon... So whatever..
