Sometimes I wish I was passionate about other things because I know it'd be easier, but there's just something about medicine

6 year old me : I want to be a doctor and help people when I grow up!

21 year old me: I shouldn’t have said that. I should NOT have said that

Becoming a doctor, or rather, pursuing any career for the prestige is one of the greatest hindrances to ever understanding what fulfills you the most. Experiencing true admiration and respect is not a goal; it is a side effect when you dedicate yourself to your passion, whatever that may be.

In college: I will be a great doctor in the future
In medical school: why did I do this to myself.
In Residence: I will almost there
Graduation and after getting a job: I love the process I enjoyed it.

It’s definitely overrated among a lot of Asian communities

It's hilarious because this is the first video I've seen where Dr. Jubbal sounds frustrated.

I'm not a doctor, never tried to be, and I regret nothing. I can't remember why I'm subscribed to this channel.

As a pre med student at Michigan State, find this channel to be very helpful when looking for information about my future goals. I like this channel a lot. I believe it’s better to be slapped with the truth than to be kissed with a lie and you do exactly that

You should only become a doctor if you are passionate about it or have a genuine desire to help others. It's a tough path!

"IN your day-to-day life it will not meaningfully contribute to your happiness" and that right there is such a profound statement for everyone. Really thinking about what is going to make you happy every day will save you from a world of hurt and regret. Thanks Dr.Jubbal

Can I just say how much I appreciate the diverse graphics? Like even showing Black men being represented as the cartoon doctors, or the male PAs, is incredible and impactful. It doesn't go unnoticed, so thank you so much, Dr. Jubbal!

Totally overhyped and it’s a very toxic environment during school. Yes it’s worth it, it’s a beautiful career but your 20’s are hell, the stress is insane. Honestly if I could go back in time, 25 yo me would go tell the 17 yo me to do something else.

I was kicking myself in the butt being upset because I never got to become a doctor earlier in life like so many others (early 20s). However, lately and after watching this, I don't regret it too much because unlike those 20 yr olds I gained real life experience and got to start saving money while pursuing a different career path. My ambition to become a doctor has never once left my mind, I knew I always wanted to get into this profession but now I'm glad it will be later in my life(30s). I'm more financially stable than those that go straight into med school after college and I know how to tackle the stresses that come from schooling (thanks law school). Non traditional applicants also have a better understanding of why they want to become a doctor.

It’s not overhyped as much as the public perception is being downgraded by other mid levels who are wanting to equate their degrees as equal to physicians and want independent practice . It’s so frequent now to see NPs and PAs all walking around with white coats starting their “doctors” (of nursing or doctor of PA lol) to patients in hospitals. So many states due to the lobby efforts of the nursing organizations have passed bills to allow them to work without supervision. When anyone with such little experience can work on their own, why is it that medical students that become doctors still have to go through residency to even practice medicine at all. Residency is much needed because as physicians we understand the importance of the learning done in residency, but to see everyday NPs and PAs acting and promoting themselves as doctors while simultaneously seeing the physician profession put under bad light due to “greed or know it all’s” really makes me question what medicine will be like when I become an attending as I am a 4th year Med student right now . Good video tho!

You nailed it on the head. I say a lot of these things when people come to me asking whether to be and NP, PA, MD or DO. You have a great approach and cover the topics thoroughly and factually. Excellent vid.
