Is Being a Doctor OVERRATED? #SHORTS

Is being a doctor overrated? In a word, yes. But maybe not for the reasons you think. Oftentimes, there’s a mismatch between expectation and reality. This leads many students to enter the field for the wrong reasons.

Will you earn status and respect for all the hard work you put in to become a physician? Absolutely. But it may not be exactly what you envisioned. Being a physician doesn’t make you immune to being treated poorly by others.

Next, there’s the salary. Although working as a doctor is one of the few professions that can guarantee a low- to mid-six-figure income, it also comes with a significant opportunity cost. While most of your college friends will graduate and start working with a meaningful salary, you’ll be spending another seven or more years in training.

Lastly, there’s career satisfaction. Although helping others has been shown to improve one’s happiness, there are many other jobs in healthcare that allow you to do that with far less debt, far less responsibility and stress, and far less time in school or training.

Medicine is still a great career, but if you’re in it for the wrong reasons you’ll quickly burn out.

In Italy, a resident earns 1300€ per month after taxes. The same amount can be obtained by a non qualified worker who starts working at the age of 19.

Unless you are a masochist it probably isn't. There are many other easier ways to earn a decent salary, have a meaningful life in some capacity and also better personal life. Sincerely, a practicing doctor.

Doctors should be only passionate about their work, cause it needs lots of effort, time and sacrifice to study and work in this field. Thanks to all doctors out there, saving lifes ❤

The problem with medicine and all those years is that they are over exaggerated to make the profession more rare and more costly. The problem is that with AI the cost will go to almost zero, because is the kind of processing that AI can do perfectly to diagnose diseases. For other thing like surgery is different.

Why be a doctor and work 60 hours a week when you can be an engineer and make slightly less but with a 9 to 5?

My ex girlfriend realized that she couldn’t do the residency because she’s dumb. I got her through medical school, then she found a attending physician she thought he was going to help her, but they rejected her in the hospital where the guy was. Soon she will be kicked out from the residency. Sweet karma
