“I’m blind in one eye, partially deaf, my right arm doesn’t work and I’ve got brain damage. Oh, and my left leg’s missing too. Apart from that, I’m alright.”
Paul Vice MC spent 16 years in the Royal Marines before his career came to a shattering halt when he was caught in the blast of an IED while on his fourth tour of Afghanistan.
So severe were his injuries, he died twice on the Chinook that took him back to Camp Bastion for the surgery that saved his life.
Please take a few minutes to listen to his remarkable story.

The fact that this dude just said “oh yeah, my legs missing” just shows how much he has been through

I'm a trauma nurse, and I have saved hundreds of people, and I loved it. Got diagnosed with cancer, can't do it anymore, and it breaks my heart not being able to save people like I use to. I understand the loss of the only career you have ever known and loved, mourning the body you had, staring at death, and crying alone and moving on with your day. I'm glad you got a second shot at life. I hope I get mine.

He's got more zest for life than many of us without disabilities. Mad respect.

He talks about his critical injuries that he has to live with like they’re not a big deal. What an incredible human being!

It's guys like this that make me proud to be British, what a humble guy

"It's a shame, but it happens doesn't it..." Dude, you are one brutally impressive son of a gun, I'll give you that. Despite not being British, that phrase alone, along with the injuries you managed to recover from are just crazy, and you've certainly earned everyone's respect.

Hey cheers to you Mate! I'm a disabled US Army Veteran. I've had multiple deployments to Iraq, Africa and Afghanistan. On April 11th 2011 our unit was ambushed by anti coalition militia forces, Haqqani and Taliban, in Kunar Province, Pech River Valley, Afghanistan. During the engagement I was severely wounded. Thankfully they were able to save my life all of my limbs, although I had multiple surgeries, years of rehabilitation etc.(Many of our guys weren't that lucky.) But the biggest blow for me, is that it put a big fat cross ❌ over my military career.
Anyways, all I wanted to say, that stories like that are indeed huge inspiration for many. Keep up the great work. 👍

Mental health is far more destructive than physical health. Losing your career and comrades is worse than losing a limb. This man is a hero in every sense. It sounds like he was determined to survive and remained calm.

Man I had a commander that took some shrapnel to his ankle from and IED in Iraq. He was the same with the pain. About 10 years after he was sent home he told them to just take his foot off because it hurt so much. After he said it felt so much better to just not have a foot. Much respect from me. Was definitely cool serving with guys from other countries when I was in Iraq.

Disgusting that the government sends these lads to go fight pointless wars and expects charities to pick up the pieces.
