Gosh that’s TASTY 3 Tips: 1. Some use ⅓ cups of condensed milk in their Brazilian Lemonade versions and BuzzFeed Producer @kaylynvenuto says YES to that! 2. You could add more water to make it less sweet 3. Please try using condensed COCONUT milk instead, and let us know what you think!

Brazilian here. This is a 'batida' if you add vodka or cachaça and ice. Or take out the condensed milk, add plain sugar, and we call it 'Swiss Lemonade'.

We call these 'lemons'. Yes, they are called limes elsewhere. Limão Taiti, that's how they are called at the market, and of course they are the main ingredient in caipirinha.

Other people have warned to remove the pits. If you are going to drink it immediately, the bitterness is ok. But it gets bitter over time, so if you are going to take more than half an hour to drink, take out the pitts and also separate the green part of the skin for use, and discard most of the white parts of the skin. It then gets milder, and you can drink it slowly over a couple of hours.

I just don't see how all the pith doesn't just make it nasty/too bitter. I just don't see how you can add enough condensed milk to cover that up without it being so sweet that it's undrinkable anyway. Think I'd rather use more limes but peel them first.

This will taste even better if you substitute the lime with condensed milk.

I will stick with the American lemonade thanks

Use organic limes or you’ll get a lot of pesticide residue off American limes.

Just use the juice & the zest, otherwise its bitter even condensed milk with its whole family wont work

It’s bitter because you use the white thing between the green of lemon and the inside part, that is really bitter, don’t use that, just scrape the green part of outside ✅
And yes I’m Brazilian, the best is with coconut milk, condensed milk and alcohol 👍

If it doesn't have lemons in it, it's not Lemonade. It's Limeade.

In Brazil and the rest of Latinamerica the green and the yellow ones are lemons and limes are some other type of citrus that look like oranges, but they are sweet and green

We all know about it. You're late to the trend by a year or more

Big mistake leaving the pith in the recipe. Even if you filter it out by squeezing it through a cheese cloth, its too late, since the bitter compounds are already mixed into the final product. Better to take the time and remove the pith from the skins in the first place. Slice the limes into 1/8th-sized wedges. With your hands, take a lime wedge and carefully peel the pulp away from the pith, and set each component aside. On a clean and sterile surface (no leftover garlic or onion residue/odor, please), take a very sharp fileting knife and run the blade between the pith and the skin of each segment of the lime peels. Toss the piths out. The skins should be visibly green on the front and back sides of each segment. If not, keep scraping away the pith. If you had a microplane zester or a proper citrus zester (the one that outputs citrus skins into thin strips), that would absolutely make it easier.... but the fileting knife, i think lets you see EXACTLY how much pith you can still remove from the skin (more control, less guessing, LESS BITTER).

there are no lemons only lime because limes are lemons here in Brazil (I don't know how to explain it better hahahaha)

To be a true Brazilian lemonade you should peel the skin off. So that’s makes not so sour.

To get rid of the butterness, use the green lime zest, then get rid of the white pith of the peel. The pith is what the bitter flavor comes from.
