In all honesty, you'd be amazed at how far you'll go socially; regardless, of where you're at the lengths you'll go with just the right attitude, manners, and appropriate clothing.

reading the comments i dont think people realize this was a social experiment with a provocative title to get your attention... the point is that wealthy people adopt a sort of "habitus" that allows them to navigate upper class worlds and body language/style of dress is more important than people realize. there are a lot of people who are rich but lack this knowledge- like reality tv stars- but they would never be accepted into a setting like this because they don't behave like upper class people. also the distance between you and another person can define your status, it's been proven- Edward T. Hall's "personal reaction bubbles"

There are a ton of social cues and mannerisms among old money that you'd have to be raised in to recognize. But courtesy, poise and being outgoing can still take you far

Don't flatter yourself thinking its just for money. A man whose a high income earner possesses qualities that such a woman admires, intelligence, skills, being a go getter and social status etc. So a rich guy might be a turn on in a lot of ways to women who pursue them for mates. Just a thought. Once money is out of the way folks are free to focus on other important things like actualization.

Mr. Fussell, at the end says that he doesn't believe that changing classes is possible, but it was true in my mother's family. When my grandfather was 12 years old, his parents gave him $5 for his birthday and told him he was on his own and kicked him out. He became a hobo and worked on many of the countries biggest skyscrapers and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge and the Royal Gorge Bridge. He settled in Cincinnati and went to work for GE on jet engines. He built the nosepiece for the Concorde. His son, my uncle, got a job at GE while in high school and worked his way up to Vice President of Jet Engine Sales. He has lived all over the world.

Listen, most of the men talking about gold digging whores are the ones that are broke, poor or/and lonely and cant get a girl for themselves. Actually many rich men don't mind spending money on their women. If she has something that attract him then, its what he wants not what everyone else think or say.... let them be and do Stop judging because you sound jealous...

It can be done. Sayles did it in less than one generation, by marrying up. There are other women that I know that moved up from lower middle class to upper middle class/upper class by attending university and marrying someone from an upper class or with upper middle class/upper class. A good example is Ms Obama.

The only difference between the rich and the poor is money & education. If you have the education (and I'm not talking about Ivy League but just a good normal education)..but not the money..you ALWAYS have a chance at gaining the money in the future. The key is to be an interesting person in your own right..and not be all about the money. If you only want to be with someone due to their money..they will know it and will usually avoid you..unless they don't mind and just want to use you like you want to use them..which is not a formula for developing something healthy and long lasting.

So the upper class feel that whatever class we were born in that is the class we will stay in. That sends a very strong message, it kind of gives you the kind of feeling, like do not even think you are on my level. I am in fact and indeed above you.The way they dress, the cost of their clothes, they way they carry themselves when perpetrating in the upper class world. That will define the type of people that one attracts.

Appearances is the key, I think that is why we wear something nice when we go for a job interview. If we appear to be dressed well but don't seem to confident than we lose the battle with ourselves.

fair enough.
A lot of women wouldn't mind marrying a rich man.
A lot of men wouldn't mind marrying a supermodel/model.

It's a natural imperative for most of us.

I know who that is! He is Paul Fussell, a retired professor of sociology at UPenn. He's very elitist. I've read some of his works, and he is extremely critical of people "beneath" him. Oddly, he dislikes the middle class because he thinks that middle-class people are pretentious! He is great at analyzing class indicators, though, such as houses and clothing.

This reminds me of The Simpsons episode when Marge bought that Chanel suit

As for not being able to change social class...I disagree with that older guy at the end. You have to be born into the 1%. If you're really beautiful you might can marry into the 1% but they usually marry inside their own circles. My husband was Poor and I Was Po and we are now the low end of Upper Middle class. So, we did it. College helped! LOL I retired at 53. I need to say this for the young ladies to know. BARROOM GOLD HAIR is not the best in the Rich World. I know, Ivanna Trump pulled it off...but Ash, Frosted, neutral buttery dark tones, platinum blondes with roots NOT showing ( which means upkeep ) are just better when looking for a rich guy. I got my Husband to go all whacky for me when I showed up at age 20 with professionally frosted highlights. I looked older ( I wanted to ) but classy! And, now at age 60 My natural strawberry blonde ( natural hair ) is kept a classy neutral shade slowly letting the new natural "silver" mix in. LOL.

I realized my class when I pronounced crudité as if it were a mineral.  Crud-ite.
